Course requirements The UAF Community and Technical College (CTC) law enforcement academy is a rigorous 13-week training program that provides basic police training for Interior and rural municipalities in preparation for the Alaska Police Standards Certification. Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible for employment with any of the approximately 21 state enforcement agencies or 43 municipal police departments within the State of Alaska. In addition to these agencies, many private security companies give special consideration to hiring candidates who possess the training certificate. Program Overview The academy includes instruction in crime scene investigation, emergency vehicle operation, building searches, defensive tactics, handgun and shotgun training, traffic stops, shooting decisions, first aid training, interview and interrogation techniques, accident investigation, traffic control, physical arrest, and handcuffing. Course requirements Admission to a Degree Program If you are seeking a degree at UAF, you must be admitted to a certificate or degree program. If you have not enrolled in a college or university before, you must have your official high school transcript sent to the admissions office. If you have attended other colleges and/or universities, you must request official transcripts from each college or university you attended. There is no need to request transcripts from other campuses in the University of Alaska system. Alaska private college Campuses Main Campus The main campus of Alaska Pacific University sits on 170 heavily wooded acres near the center of Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage. The campus includes summer and winter recreational trails, state-of-the-art facilities, and magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Atwood Center was designed by architect Edward Durell Stone who also designed the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. This main building serves as a hub of student activities and includes the dining hall, indoor climbing wall, weight room, photography lab, bookstore, the APU Chapel, Academic Support Center, computer lab, and offices of the Dean of Students, career counseling, and university chaplain. Segelhorst Residence Hall opened in Fall 2007 to provide apartment style living quarters for 24 students. Grant Hall is the university’s original academic center, with classrooms, administrative offices, recently remodeled theater and adjacent Conoco-Phillips Art Gallery.
