Reader requests - bathrooms with colour This request comes from Becky: "I need some help revamping my bathroom. Right now its a soft gray and I'm kind of tired of it, kind of blah. So I'm wondering if you have any inspiration for color in a bathroom? My bathroom is a medium size with a claw foot tub and white subway tile in the shower, dark stained vanity with Carrera Marble top, so a bit old fashioned however I am a lover of vintage modern so if you have any bathrooms that might meld the 2 styles I would be eternally grateful!" Hide Cords in Plain Sight: Clever DIY Phone-Line Cable Art « Dornob Despite our increasingly wired world, not everything has gone wireless – and old houses will still have TV cables, phone lines and electrical cords snaking through them for decades to come. Why not forget about how to hide these completely and instead celebrate their function in a fun and unique way … maybe even plug a lamp in the process? Made to mount on the wall anyway, this simple home decor idea from designer Maisie Maud Broadhead uses simple do-it-yourself materials – standard electrical cable and conventional hardware-store hammer tacks – but to create a recognizable pattern of a very different type. Looking for an alternative way to keep cords hidden in plain view while doing double-duty and decorating your bare walls?
One Week Food Menu - Economical And Healthy I have always loved Cinnamon-Raisin bread, so I went and found a basic recipe and then added the most wonderful ingredients to make it extra special. I love tons of flavor in my foods, and this bread reflects my tastes completely. If you also love bold flavors, then this is a recipe for you! It is the perfect breakfast food ( I prefer a slice buttered, but if you want to toast it it’s amazing that way, too!), it is also the perfect gift. There are some pieces of equipment that are really necessary to own to be able to keep your property in prime condition. paint chip calendar A few weeks ago, I saw this paint chip calendar on my friend David’s blog Cheltenham Road and knew I had to make one! It combines two things that I love…stylishness and organization. And the fact that it utilizes paint chips? Even better. I mostly followed David’s tutorial with just a few modifications. Since I planned for this calendar to hang in my office, I chose paint chips that would coordinate with the room and with the pin board that hangs on the adjacent wall. Here’s my version. materials needed: poster frame, fabric, hot glue gun, 35 paint chips, paper trimmer, corner rounder, fabric glue, foam brush 1) Purchase a poster frame (mine came from Target…$9.99). 2) Remove the edges from the frame. 3) Cover the cardboard insert with fabric using hot glue to secure it on the back, pulling tightly to keep the fabric smooth. 4) Trim the paint chips with a paper trimmer (I chose to leave the paint color names but cut off the brand). These BH&G paint chips came from Wal-Mart. Sharing here:
Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover… If you drove by this house in Bedford, NY renovated by Alisberg Parker Architects you’d probably expect the interior to be chock full of traditional classics, right? I really do enjoy a home that has a traditional architectural exterior (and interior- notice all thought molding and trim painted over glossy white) paired with really modern furniture. It’s so unexpected. And that pool house? I die. But I alos love that this design team is capable of doing funky traditional decor as well. How to Make Marshmallow Fondant This time I decided to make it with those mini fruit flavored marshmallows. I had to sort them by colour first. I figured they would add a little bit of flavor to the fondant so I wouldn't have to add much flavoring oil. I use gel colours to dye my fondant but regular food colouring will work too. I also had lemon oil and coconut flavoring on hand.. oh la la the value brand (which still works fine). Step One: Take a couple of handfuls of marshmallows and put them in a microwave safe bowl. I like to make smaller batches because its easier to add the colour to the melted marshmallow than it is to work the colour into the fondant later. Step Two: Stick the marshmallows in the microwave for ten seconds at a time until the are puffed up and easily stir into a goo with a wooden spoon. Step Three: Add food colouring to the melted marshmallows until you get the colour you want. Step Four: Start folding icing sugar into the marshmallow goo until it becomes a soft and fluffy dough. Finished fondant! 1.

Cheese Pinwheel Rolls Sooner or later, all my conversations inevitably turn to food. Don’t believe me? Call me up sometime and try to, say, sell me some insurance. I guarantee that before we get off the phone, I’ll be giving you my recipe for blackberry jam. Perfect example: I was in a meeting a few weeks ago at the office. What was the best way to make them? Ah, the Frankenroll This recipe borrows heavily from two fairly unrelated things. To make these rolls, spread pizza dough liberally with melted butter, sprinkle it with cheese and spices, roll it up like a stromboli—then slice and bake like a pan of cinnamon buns. The result? Fill them however you like The best part about these rolls? This is what I always refer to as a Sliding-Scale Recipe. You can toss it together with a ball of pre-made dough and a bag of shredded cheese from the grocery store—or you can go all out and make the dough from scratch and grate your favorite cheeses by hand. I like to throw these rolls together on a weeknight. Bake the rolls
Bare stone walls in the bathroom What do you think of some rustic harshness in your bathroom? Bare stone walls work just fine with sleek concrete surfaces, creating a space that radiates an organic uniqueness I simply can't say no. Actually, it is the use of both antiquated and modern techniques that makes this style so appealing, and, taking it from photo no 3, adding a vintage piece like the large gilded mirror, a log and a few wicker baskets, or, like photo no 4, a stark, frameless mirror and inox fixtures, you can fine tune the atmosphere from total country chic to contemporary elegance. So, is bare stone something you'd opt for? Pudding Cups ? bakerella.com Wicked Good Chocolate Peanut Butter Pudding Cups. They’re from the book, Sticky, Chewy, Messy, Gooey Treats for Kids by Jill O’Connor and just as good as their name states. Jill sent me and my niece a copy of her book as a little thank you for a post I did inspired by her Cheesecake Pops. We had a hard time deciding which recipe to try first, but we kept coming back to these pudding cups. From separating the egg yolks, to the measuring and mixing. She cooked the pudding. And mixed in the peanut butter… (thank you, Jill) … and the extra chocolate chips … Oh my! Let the pudding chill for at least four hours before eating. Here’s a link to the Pudding Recipe so you can print it out. Now, here’s the best part. It involves balloons to make bowls. Okay, I did help a little bit here. After you blow up the balloons, wash them off and let them dry. Okay, here’s what you do. Melt some semi-sweet chocolate, white chocolate or confectionery coating. And repeat. Repeat. It’s as easy as one… two… three!
