Men att bara titta utan att bearbeta det man ser kan te sig mer eller mindre meningslöst. Ett enkelt sätt att göra tittandet mer meningsfullt är att att jämföra en filmgestaltning med ett litterärt original, eller tvärtom. Man behöver inte titta på en hel film eller läsa en hel bok, det kan räcka med att analysera en liten bit för att göra tittandet mer meningsfullt. I samband med Around the world in eight months besökte vi Indien. Då passade vi på att läsa de första sidorna av Kiplings mästerverk The Jungle Book. Den ena cirkeln symboliserade texten, den andra filmen och ytan i mitten, snittet, symboliserar det som de båda versionerna har gemensamt. Julen nalkas, och jag antar att jag inte är den enda engelsklärare vars hjärta klappar lite extra för Charles Dickens klassiker A Christmas Carol och dess filmatiserade versioner.
