Storific Storific’s app could do away with restaurant waiters forever 29 December '10, 04:26pm Follow One thing I hate about eating out is the waiters. This iPhone app will allow you to ‘check in’ to a restaurant and then order items from its menu without having to wait around for table service. It’s an idea with some real potential. Storific’s founder and CEO, Michael Cohen says that during beta testing, it’s been found that the tool considerably increases the number of orders made by a single table and thus has a direct positive impact on restaurants’ takings. The Paris-based startup is currently self-funded and plans for 2011 include hunting down angel investors and venture capitalists to help grow the business faster. Services like Storific won’t necessarily do away with waiters entirely. We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on Storific’s twist on geolocation as it progresses in 2011.

A First Look at Android 3.0 Honeycomb, or Android for Tablets The pad format suffers from lack of hardware more than lack of software. My wife has an iPad and I have a rooted Pandigital Novel running Android. The Novel is almost fast enough to get out of its own way, but at least it has given me a chance to compare interfaces, hardware, and pad apps between the two platforms. Maybe there are 200,000 apps for Android, but as of today, the hands-on quality really suffers compared to iPad. Apple has nothing to worry about for awhile. In my opinion the coolest apps use the high tech hardware. The iPad wifi is not perfect either.

Find and Delete Duplicate Images on your Computer This video tutorial describes how you can quickly delete duplicate images and photographs on your computer with free software tools. You can have duplicate images on your computer for three reasons: You transferred a set of pictures from the digital camera to your computer but did not erase them from the camera. Thus when you re-connected the camera, they got copied again to your hard drive but in a different location. If you are only looking to find and remove images that are “exact” duplicates of each other, Google’s Picasa desktop software could be a good solution. While removing duplicate images with Picasa, please remember that the software will list all copies that are found of an image including the original one. Alternatively, create a separate folder that’s not included in Picasa and move all the potential duplicate photographs to that folder instead of deleting them. Facebook appears on path toward IPO, possibly next year By Matt Krantz and Jon Swartz, USA TODAY Popular social-networking site Facebook is the latest Internet company rumored to be preparing to go public, causing some investors to wonder if there's a tech IPO revival on the way. Facebook expects to hit the 500-shareholder threshold that would trigger regulations prompting it to publicly disclose financial statements and launch an initial public offering next year, according to a document given to potential private investors by Goldman Sachs, Reuters reports. Facebook and Goldman Sachs declined to comment. If Facebook did go public, it would continue a reluctant return of technology companies to the IPO market. Facebook, though, isn't the only Internet company eyeing an IPO. It's far from a tech IPO bonanza. Yet, Facebook's prospective IPO is an about-face for the company, whose CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, had repeatedly downplayed the idea.

For Goldman Sachs, Facebook Investment Comes With Many Benefits Brendan Mcdermid/Reuters 8:50 p.m. | Updated Goldman Sachs and Facebook have friended each other. In investing $450 million in the social networking giant, Goldman has established itself as the leading candidate to win the lucrative and prestigious assignment of Facebook’s initial public offering, whenever that day comes. But Goldman’s bold move is also likely to focus the attention of regulators at the Securities and Exchange Commission, which last month began an inquiry into the surge in trading shares of privately held Internet companies. While the investment by Goldman is being hailed as a huge coup on Wall Street, the deal — in particular the investment pool being formed for its clients — could become a lightning rod for regulators and policy makers as they examine the growing shadow market in Facebook shares. For Goldman, the investment in Facebook is in many ways a return to the firm’s roots. Mr. A Goldman spokesman declined to comment.
