Rashad Alakbarov Paints with Shadows and Light This is kind of flying all over the internet right now, but I couldn’t resist sharing. Artist Rashad Alakbarov from Azerbaijan uses suspended translucent objects and other found materials to create light and shadow paintings on walls. The jaw-dropping light painting above, made with an array of colored airplanes is currently on view at the Fly to Baku exhibition at De Pury Gallery in London through January 29th. (via art wednesday, fasels suppe) Playfully Adorable Illustrations That Will Make You Smile Kuala Lampur, Malaysia-based artist Lim Heng Swee loves to doodle. With a bright attitude towards life, he creates adorable illustrations that are playfully paired with funny phrases and word puns. He brings ordinary objects like sheets of paper, pieces of fruit, and pairs of pants alive with personality. Things that don't usually go well together become perfect pairs with good intentions, bright smiles, and sweet sentiments. The clean and modern designs merge colorful shapes with bright, solid backgrounds. The simple illustrations are intended to communicate distinctly positive concepts of hope, love, and good humor. Peter Root | Ephemicropolis Artist Peter Root‘s latest work ‘Ephemicropolis’, is pretty astonishing. A metropolis made completely from stacks of over 100.000 metal staples. The stacks of staples were broken into varying sizes from full stacks about 12cm high down to single staples. These stacks were then stood up and arranged over a period of 40 hours. Via Designboom
Tang Yau Hoong - artist/ illustrator/ graphic designer Best Inventions of the Year 2012 That’s not Photoshop. The Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde has developed a way to create a small, perfect white cloud in the middle of a room. It requires meticulous planning: the temperature, humidity and lighting all have to be just so. Once everything is ready, Smilde summons the cloud out of the air using a fog machine. It lasts only moments, but the effect is dramatic and strangely moving.
