I want to follow mine. I hope you want to follow yours. But how often have I said to myself one of these excuses: “I can’t right now because” , or “I’m not good enough because…”, or “I have a foreign accent” and I put myself in a prison that I created and I lock the doors behind me. How do we break down the wall that we, through our “education”, “culture”, “backgrounds”, etc, put up brick by brick for ourselves. I know it’s hard for me to break down this wall for myself. When I was growing up in Argentina, people were disappearing right off the streets and never returning because they dared to break down the wall. The wall is not really a wall, it is something much more harmful and solid than that, it is our inner saboteur, and it tends to appear in the form of a thought, it may sound like this: I was at a dinner last month deep in Texas with five men, all of them brilliant. 1. I know how cheesy this sounds. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Be quiet.

Croatan Cottage: A Beautifully Restored Sears Roebuck Kit House in North Carolina Croatan Cottage in Manteo, North Carolina started life as a Sears Roebuck kit house in the early 1900s called “The Vallonia.” At the time it was described as “a prize bungalow home already cut and fitted,” that you could buy for just $1,979. Here’s how it looked in the original catalog: After the house was delivered in kit form by boat to the Manteo waterfront, it was unloaded and assembled here. This is how it looks today: Be still, my heart. A reader named Melody sent me these photos that she took of the house. The house still has its original light fixtures: There are 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. The Sears Roebuck catalogs began to offer house plans in 1895. Bungalows like this one were among Sears’ best-selling house plans. Melody tells me, “The board and batten barn is also a beautiful spot and opens up at one end with double doors.” Local artist Gina Owens paints colorful folk art fish on boards and crab pot floats like these shown on the barn behind the house: Hooked on Cottages?

xoJane I started having sex with adult men when I was 13 years old. Neglected at home and ostracized at school, I found comfort in the sexual attentions of older men. Unlike boys my own age, who cruelly taunted me, older men were nice to me. Unlike my emotionally distant father, older men paid attention to me. And so I created Prodigy chat rooms with names like "13yo girl home alone" and spent hours chatting and having phone sex with the men who would find me there. I was not coerced. And yet, on Monday, Stacey Rambold, a Senior High teacher convicted of raping 14-year-old Cherice Morales, who later committed suicide, was sentenced to spend just 30 days in jail. The judge also said Morales was "older than her chronological age." Yep, you read that right. After the sentencing, the victim's mother shouted "You people suck!" The fact is, a 14-year-old girl may be capable of agreeing to sex with a 49-year-old man, but she doesn't have the emotional and mental maturity to consent.

Geninne's Art Blog Eye-LIKEy chats with Maria Carluccio artist + author When I was a kid I once got in big trouble for scratching doodles of houses into a soft leather tabletop (hey, it was the '70s). From that point on I knew I was hooked. I always thought that it was cool to be able to draw what you could see but it was magical to draw what you could feel or imagine. I still think that. My dad practiced law. I would find treasure in the exotic scraps of paper. Today I am a freelance illustrator and designer. Maria graduated with an BFA from Carnegie Mellon ( same school as Andy Warhol, by the way! How do you stay inspired? I try to keep my eyes open to so much. Typical work day? I have to have coffee through out the day. What are you currently working on now? I’m working on some new letterforms for Wall Stories. Favorite place you ever traveled to I think I’d have to say Japan. Where would you like to visit that you haven’t yet? India and all over Scandinavia. Top 3 Favorite website + blog/s Ok, so first, I have to give you props of coarse J.
