How do I prepare?
There’s a range of materials to help you prepare for your IELTS test. Firstly, download the free Information for Candidates booklet (PDF, 935KB) which provides an explanation of the test. Sample questions online Try some free sample questions online. These sample questions will give you an idea of what to expect in the Reading, Writing and Speaking modules. IELTS preparation courses Some IELTS centres have workshops to help you prepare for your test. Official IELTS Practice Materials IELTS has official practice materials to help you understand the format of the test and the types of questions. Vol. 1 Official IELTS Practice Materials (with CD) Vol. 2 Official IELTS Practice Materials (with DVD) Both volumes of the practice material offer samples of the Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking modules with sample answers and Examiner comments. The Official IELTS Practice Materials Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 are the only IELTS practice materials endorsed by the IELTS partners.

IELTS - the International English Language Testing System - Exam English
IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is used as the language of communication. IELTS is required for entry to university in the UK and other countries. Who is it for? IELTS is recognised by universities and employers in many countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. What is the IELTS test like? You can choose between the Academic or General Training versions of the test. Listening - 4 sections, 40 questions, 30 minutes Speaking - interview, 15 minutes Reading - different for Academic or General Training - 3 sections, 40 questions, 60 minutes Writing - different for Academic or General Training - 2 pieces of writing, 60 minutes This site also contains vocabulary tests, including practice tests for the academic wordlist, as well as grammar tests that are relevant to IELTS. I am sure that after reading my previous post, you couldn’t wait for the next one. IELTS Speaking tips If your goal is Band 6, you don’t have to speak a complex English – just don’t make mistakes in the simple English. Don’t experiment with new words during your interview – it is not the time. No one will judge you on your ideas, only on your English. You have to think about what and HOW you are going to say. Expose yourself to as much English as you can. If you make mistake – that’s bad, if you correct yourself – it’s not that bad. If you say “economic” instead of “economy” and make more mistakes like that – it’s a Band 5 job. Band 7 people should show they can use a little of special vocabulary. Related posts:
IELTS Essentials - Academic Reading Practice Test
The Academic Reading test is 60 minutes long. Test Parts There are 3 sections. Each section contains one long text. Texts are authentic and are taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers. Texts are appropriate to, and accessible to, test-takers entering undergraduate or postgraduate courses, or seeking professional registration. Texts range from descriptive and factual to the discursive and analytical. Texts may contain non-verbal materials, such as diagrams, graphs or illustrations. If texts contain technical terms, a simple glossary is provided. Question types A variety of questions is used, chosen from the following types: multiple choice, identifying information, identifying writer’s views/claims, matching information, matching headings, matching features, matching sentence endings, sentence completion, summary completion, note completion, table completion, flow-chart completion, diagram label completion, short-answer questions. Marking Each correct answer receives 1 mark.
