National Urban Policy Background In 2010 and 2011 the Australian Government sought feedback on how to make our cities more productive, sustainable and liveable. The discussion paper and accompanying background and research paper received 230 public submissions and survey responses from State, Territory and Local Governments, business and community representatives, urban researchers and members of the public. Nearly 450 stakeholders also participated in consultation workshops across Australia's 18 major cities.
