A slightly different impossible list: "home", "dog", "lizard" - all 3 have letters that they share! When you add a bunch of words, the chance for it being an impossible can increase (depending on many factors). 2.
The UK’s first food waste supermarket opens: in pictures | The Independent The UK’s first food waste supermarket has opened in Pudsey, near Leeds. Food waste campaigners from the Real Junk Food Project have opened "the warehouse", a store on the Grangefield Industrial Estate. Customers are invited to shop for food thrown out by supermarkets and other businesses. The food is priced on a "pay as you feel" basis and has already helped desperate families struggling to feed their children. "The warehouse has absolutely been our lifeline over the past month or so," Kirsty Rhodes told The Independent. Kirsty was recently diagnosed with a chronic pain condition, leaving her husband with no choice but to leave work to take over most of the care of the couple’s three children. “With three young children and two adults to feed we started to struggle straight away. What is the Real Junk Food Project? So far the family have bought fresh pasta, juice, pasta sauce, desserts, fruit, vegetables and lots of salad. “We’re about to start in Sheffield and Bradford,” he said.

Fantasy Name Generator - Generate The Best Fantasy Names 3 Secret Codes You've Got to Try With Your Kids I live with two aspiring secret agents, who sometimes need to send important cryptic messages to each other. In addition to experimenting with lemon juice as invisible ink, we’ve been having loads of fun trying out various secret codes and ciphers. And as a bonus, playing with secret codes is a great way to sneak some writing into your summer days! Secret Codes #1: Reverse Alphabet Here’s a simple reverse alphabet code to start with. Secret Codes #2: Pig Pen My girls loved the pig pen symbol code once they had some time to practice with it. We practiced writing our names and silly words before moving to coding whole sentences. Secret Codes #3: Grid A grid secret code is easy to set-up, and is great practice for using coordinates, too. We like leaving secret code notes for each other in unusual places – the bathroom mirror, under a pillow, in the freezer, at the bottom of the slide. Another fun way to play with codes is to set up a scavenger hunt. Szkkb kozbrmt! (That’s “Happy playing!”
Escape Room Manual | librarylady nicole Follow the big link above to a ludicrously detailed manual for staging an Escape Room (or Locked Room/Puzzle Room/Mystery Room) at your library. This manual was written in February of 2016, and it’s been accessed over 10,000 times in the past year-and-a-half (WOW!) Since then, my staff and I have presented it at state and regional conferences, and we’re always happy to help you get started! NOTE: It’s long, it’s excessively (obnoxiously) detailed, and it will help you get this program off the ground. Live-action gaming events like this are daunting, even if you have tons of experience with them. If you have any questions about any of this stuff, I’m more than happy to help out – again, it’s a lot of information, please feel free to email me at libraryladynicole@gmail.com or comment here. We are in the midst of planning our third event, after a super-successful Harry Potter-themed game designed by the absurdly talented Marissa this past summer. Like this: Like Loading...
Harry Potter escape room - School Library Journal Robin Papaleka thought the program she created for the Laramie County Library in Cheyenne, WY, could be a hit, but she had doubts. Within an hour of announcing the event, they had evaporated. Papaleka, along with fellow librarian Anna McClure, created a Harry Potter–themed escape room that she planned to run for two days. Papaleka quickly decided to run the escape room for a full week, and slots for those were also booked during the first day. “It was a bigger hit than we expected,” she says. Papaleka and McClure are among a growing group of librarians tapping into the popularity of escape rooms, physical rooms where groups of players work together using clues and strategy to solve puzzles. A Marauder’s Map, the Daily Prophet, and more Papaleka created her Potter-themed room by putting pictures of the books’ characters on the walls and stocking a table with items such as the Marauder’s Map, a potion book, and some issues of the Daily Prophet. Tween Programming–Escape Room in the Library – The Lego Librarian Library Escape Rooms are really big right now, so I tried to design this program so that any library can try to duplicate it. Because making something like this is kinda daunting–where do you even start? From what I’ve read, starting at the end is the best way to do it. UPDATE: My “Escape Room in the Library: Year 2” is now complete! You can see it here. I knew didn’t want to my kids to actually “break out” of our room; I thought that would end badly. So then I had to figure out where to put the key to unlock the suitcase. Next, I made a fake call number for the book and stuck it out in the stacks in our nonfiction section. So the final puzzle was actually NOT in the escape room, but I made sure to tell kids that the key to the suitcase was hidden somewhere in the library, and they had to solve the puzzles to find out where. Still working backwards, I figured that now that each puzzle that was solved would now unlock a part of the call number. Puzzle 1 Puzzle 2 Puzzle 3 Goldi-LOCKS!
Leading Digital Escape Rooms Online during COVID-19 All schools in Louisiana have been closed since March 13, 2020, and many school librarians across Louisiana, as well as the United States and other countries, have been diligently curating and disseminating resources for their students, educators, and community. As I spent hours gathering resources, I came across a post by Kelly Wadyko in a librarian Facebook group about a free Harry Potter Digital Escape Room created by Sydney Krawiec, a youth services librarian at Peters Township Public Library in McMurray, PA. I have hosted Breakout Boxes and escape rooms in my school library, but I did not have much experience with digital escape rooms. I decided to try my hand at this online escape room, and absolutely loved it. I began wondering how I could share this escape room with my students. On March 22, Heather and I put on our Harry Potter attire and waited to see who would show up. The first meeting was fun, but we needed to fine-tune our approach for the next digital escape room.
061: Using Podcasts Successfully in ELA In today's episode of The Spark Creativity Teacher Podcast, you're going to hear from the always creative Amanda from Engaging and Effective. She's my first ever repeat guest, and if you missed our first conversation, you might want to go back and listen because it's definitely one of the most popular episodes ever. Episode 031: 3 Engaging Lessons (Murder Mysteries, SNL Clips and Ted Talks) In this episode, we're going to dive into all things podcast for the classroom: which podcasts she likes to use, how she helps students stay focused during listening periods, using QR codes to give students access to episodes, and a great creative activity you can use with the NPR show, How I Built This (so good!). When you play a podcast for your students, what do you all DO so you’re not awkwardly staring at one another? It's nice to have a graphic organizer or guiding questions in front of your students as they listen. I love your idea to let students listen through QR codes. Scary Podcasts: Yes!
