Apply these techniques and your animated films will be better, get more likes, and amaze your audience. Animation Flicker A lot of stop motion films suffer from flicker issues. Is the camera auto-exposure turned on? (Here's a video which shows how to turn off a webcam's auto exposure with the AMCAP application). Are there lights behind you? Camera Shake When you're animating a film with toy characters, like LEGO minifigs, you want the camera to be as still as possible, or move gracefully, like a camera does in a feature film. What NEVER looks good, is a camera image that's constantly wobbling off-kilter, as the animator bumps it with their sleeve. Some animations made with larger figures, like this Paper Mario animation get away with camera shake, because the action is happening all over the room. Low Frame Rate A lot of new animators post movies they've made with still-cameras. Turn down the volume for this one ;-). Poor Camera Angles Blurry Images No Story
Web Design Review of Philosophersnotes.com I came across this site while doing research for GuruShot.com, our new Web2.0 quotes project. I simply love it, and I want to share it with you. PhilosophersNotes is a site that provides incredibly concise summaries of top personal growth books in just a couple of pages. Philosophersnotes.com is one of my very favourite designs of the moment. Here’s the home page of PhilosophersNotes. Here are the features I see in its design (and the approach to design) that I think make it work. SimplicityPixel-savingDesign the contentFocusCall to actionPersonality Simplicity First of all, and most importantly, this site design is simple. Simple sites work better because (as “Save the Pixel — The Art of Simple Web Design” teaches), “Success is a function of Attention divided by Stuff”. The more stuff you put on a web page, the less attention each thing is likely to get. There is only as much navigation as there needs to be. Notice how each piece of content has at most one image. Pixel-Saving I’ll show you.
Share Your Best IFTTT Recipe IFTTT can be amazing with google calendar. It has one drawback: it can only poll one of your (assumed to be) many calendars. What I did was create an IFTTT calendar, then I duplicate any events that I want to use with IFTTT into that particular calendar. "Tutoring" in title creates a note w/ template in evernote with categories like material covered, assessment, student to-do, my to-do, and tags with "tutoring", "notes", "~toRead" "Meeting" in title does the same with different note template properties and corresponding tags "Flight" in title uses the info provided by TripIt (I got that from LH too) to create a note with itinerary, appropriate tags, and date and time info in title, of course) I also use a recipe with keywords for classes in my titles, and then it auto-generates a note similar to the tutoring/meeting note with the class title and date as title, tags it with ~toRea and notes, and has a quick checklist in the body as well: Do you need to: scan?

As a print designer, you will find yourself using selections to remove objects from their background to place within ads. As a web designer, you might extract an image and place it on a website with no background. If you are a photographer, you might make a selection to remove blemishes or other unwanted features from an image. You can’t get around it; everyone uses selections, and if you make excellent selections, you’ll end up with excellent work. So, what do you do when you have something that is extremely difficult to select with normal selection tools? Even with the masking and channels, you can’t make a precise selection consistently. You can try the quick selection tool, which does a great job of making a selection of the bulk of the image, but making a more refined selection is difficult with this method. In comes Refine Mask to the rescue. We can fix this by using the Smart Radius Slider.
