Make It and Love It Combine Smalls to Make Large Bulletin Board Home » $10 and Beyond, Decor, Headline, Office Crafts, Tutorials 5 April 2010 72,875 views 8 Comments by heather Most things you get at the dollar store are not huge. If you're only paying a buck, things can only be so large. One way to get bigger impact is to combine small pieces into a larger one (kind of like Heather did a My Frugal Family with this mind-blowing art piece - click to see it). [inspiration image: pottery barn] Project Materials: Six bulletin boards, $1Stencils (cut your own), on handAcrylic paint, on hand or $.50Sash rod (optional), about $1.50 each - comes in a package of 2Glue or duct tape to attach the frames, on hand Total: $6 and up To make a big bulletin board, I bought six of the small framed bulletin boards I found in the office supplies section of the dollar store and attached them. Before I attached the frames together, though, I added a couple of stencils, inspired by the PB example. p.s. (Because I used the electric screwdriver/drill for the first time!

St. Patrick’s Day Kids Craft: Perler Bead Bowls - Daily Party Dish My kids and I discovered this fun craft the other day and decided it would be great for St. Patrick’s Day, or any holiday. We created these great bowls out of Perler beads. You can find them at any craft store. All we needed was an oven proof bowl, the beads and cooking spray. Start by spraying the inside of your bowl with cooking spray. When you’ve filled your bowl with one layer of beads, put the bowl in the oven or toaster oven for 10-15 minutes at 400°. After “cooking”, take the bowl out and let the beads cool in the bowl for a few minutes. Happy melting!

how-to When it comes to things that hackers build, PCBs are a sizeable portion of our creative output. It’s no wonder – PCB design is a powerful way to participate in the hardware world, making your ideas all that more tangible with help of a friendly PCB fab. It’s often even more lovely when the PCB has been designed for you, and all you have to do is press “send” – bonus points if you can make a few changes for your own liking! A lot of the time, our projects are untrodden ground, however, and a new design needs to be born. Let’s step back a bit – you’ve just designed a board, and it’s great! There’s a few ways that you can share your PCB projects in a more powerful way – I’d like to point out a few low-hanging fruits, whether README.md files or markings on the PCB itself. Manul – the Cat that Time Forgot Have you ever wanted to take a trip through time to see what animals looked like millions of years ago? When it comes to cats there is little or no need. This beautiful specimen is a Manul, otherwise known as Pallas’s Cat. Although the Manul is only the size of the domestic cat, reaching about 26 inches in length its appearance makes it appear somewhat larger. The main reason for its survival throughout the ages has been its isolation. Take a close look at the eyes of the Manul. It also has a much shorter face than other cats, which makes its face look flattened. The Manus has not been studied a great deal in the wild, where it is classified as near threatened. It is thought that the cat hunts mostly at dawn and dusk where it will feed on small rodents and birds. The Manul is a solitary creature and individuals do not tend to meet purposefully when it is outside the breeding season and will avoid the company of others of its kind where possible.

Painting on Wet Glue We are back with another Paint and Play challenge with Crystal from Growing a Jeweled Rose and Vicky from Mess for Less. If this is your first time joining us, the focus for our series is all about the process and encouraging our kids to get excited about creating art with fun and unique mediums! Our challenge this week was to create art with Glue. I recently found these amazing Cosmic Sun-Catchers and I knew we had to try creating our own. Since Babble Babble Do posted such an amazing tutorial, I am only just going to post the pictures of our process. The kids loves squishing the food coloring onto the set glue. I think everyone’s favorite part including mine, was swirling the food coloring drops around in the white glue. I love how easy this activity was to set up. I was so excited to share these with you so they are still wet. I love finding new ways to paint, and this activity was oh so satisfying! FOr more creative way to Paint and Play with Glue, make sure to check out…

Crystal Egg Geodes - Martha Stewart Easter Geodes can be grown without using egg dye. The resulting crystals are clear to milky white, like quartz. While large chicken eggshells are suggested in this process, larger eggshells can be used. Simply increase the size of the plastic or glass container and double or triple the amounts of dye (1 packet), alum (3/4 part), and water (2 parts) used to create the growing solution. This Easter craft from Jim "Figgy" Noonan doubles as a science project, offering an opportunity to show kids the crystallization process at work. Resources: If you don't want to blow your own egg or would like to try a larger eggshell, pre-blown shells are available from The Eggery Place.
