What's Your Zombie Contingency Plan? 11 Practical Strategies All the men (and most women) I know have one thing in common: They have a zombie contingency plan. If the zombies arise tomorrow, everybody has at least a hazy outline of what, exactly, they would do to survive the coming onslaught. It's the single best part about the zombie mythos: planning your strategy. So I asked everybody I could think of to submit their own zombie contingency plans, and this is but a small sample of what I received: The "I Had a Good Plan But Then I Tripped" Stratagem By Robert Brockway Since I'm planning on criticizing the plans submitted, it's only fair that I go first. The "I Will Miss You Dearly" Stratagem By Meagan (my girlfriend) When the zombies appear and start messing with everything, I'm going to rely on you to have planned everything related to our survival. The "Feed the Elderly (to Zombies)" Strategem By Jennifer Bonesteel Well, I workout everyday so that I can be faster than a slowly moving shuffle. The "Eternal Sausage Party" Stratagem By Thomas Simmons
Home Alone You probably didn't realize just how identical these two movies were. Something else you might not know: 'Home Alone' is empirically better than 'Die Hard.' Don't believe us? &&(navigator.userAgent.in Just The Facts Home Alone was made in 1990 by John Hughes, who also made 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' and 'The Breakfast Club' It is the highest-grossing live action comedy of all time. What Kids Can Learn from Home Alone Dealing With Parents Are your parents inexplicably annoyed with you, despite the fact that you're clearly much more awesome than they are? Like, say, this guy. Criminals Mostly bungling idiots, they can be defeated by the average 10-year-old. Note to Macaulay Culkin: Smooth criminals, on the other hand, should never be approached by 10-year-olds. Solar Powered Toothbrush Could Make Toothpaste Obsolete When we first saw this new gadget, we thought “Oh, a mechanical toothbrush powered by the sun.” But that isn’t what this is. Instead of using solar rays to charge itself up, the toothbrush uses them to catalyze a powerful chemical reaction that could leave your mouth way cleaner than regular old brushing does. Mechanical University of Saskatchewan dentistry professor emeritus Dr. Komiyama’s first model, which was described 15 years ago in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, contained a titanium dioxide rod in the neck of the brush, just below the nylon bristles. Now Komiyama’s back with a newer model, the Soladey-J3X, which he says packs twice the chemical punch compared to the original. Via Canada.com

Row Three » Vanity Fair Recreates Hitchcock Alright, these are just plain cool. Vanity Fair had a recent photoshoot with some of today’s most popular stars where they recreated classic scenes from some of Alfred Hitchcock’s most iconic films. They’re all pretty awesome, but my favorites have to be Seth Rogen in North by Northwest, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. in To Catch a Thief, and Scarlett Johansson and Javier Bardem in Rear Window. The others include Keira Knightley and Jennifer Jason Leigh in Rebecca, Emile Hirsch and James McAvoy in Strangers on a Train, Charlize Theron in Dial M For Murder, Naomi Watts in Marnie, Rene Zellweger in Vertigo, Jodie Foster in The Birds, and lastly Tang Wei, Josh Brolin, Casey Affleck, Eva Marie Saint, Ben Foster, Omar Metwally and Julie Christie in Lifeboat. I’ve posted them all below, JUST CLICK ANY IMAGE if you’re looking for some big enough to use as wallpaper – and you can see the original post over at /Film.

Bizarre sea slug is half plant, half animal It looks like any other sea slug, aside from its bright green hue. But the Elysia chlorotica is far from ordinary: it is both a plant and an animal, according to biologists who have been studying the species for two decades. Not only does E. chlorotica turn sunlight into energy — something only plants can do — it also appears to have swiped this ability from the algae it consumes. Native to the salt marshes of New England and Canada, these sea slugs use contraband chlorophyll-producing genes and cell parts called chloroplasts from algae to carry out photosynthesis, says Sidney Pierce, a biologist at the University of South Florida in Tampa. That genetic material has since been passed down to the next generation, eliminating the need to consume algae for energy. However, the baby slugs can’t carry out photosynthesis until they’ve stolen their own chloroplasts, which they aren’t yet able to produce on their own, from their first and only meal of algae.
If movies followed their original casting... list TRIVIA From IMDB: Robert Redford screen-tested with Candice Bergen for the part of Benjamin Braddock but was finally rejected by director Mike Nichols because Nichols did not believe Redford could persuasively project the underdog qualities necessary to the role. When he told this to Redford, the actor asked Nichols what he meant. "Well, let's put it this way," said Nichols, "Have you ever struck out with a girl?" "What do you mean?" asked Redford. "That's precisely my point," said Nichols. The poster wouldn't have worked either.
Meme Of The Week 5-6 This week we’re focusing on Jesus Is A Jerk. It’s a variation of the old LOL Jesus. The Setup: Larry Van Pelt felt the spirit of the lord speak to him, and it inspired him to make pencil illustrations that portray everyday people in everyday events with Jesus with them, guiding them. But what if Jesus was acting like a jerk instead? For an expanded list and more pictures, check out the Meme gallery 50 Lessons Learned From Movies | Static-Romance.Org Happy Monday! I know it’s not always happy but today it is because Creatives Couples is back! I’m very excited because this one of two times you’ll be seeing the lovely Lisa Yoder, a developer from Philadephia, on the blog this week. Lisa currently works at Urban Outfitters as a developer and is married to the very talented Chad Ostrowski who is a Ruby developer at PipelineDeals. I’m extremely jealous of their double-developer power. While both my husband and are front-end developers, we definitely don’t get to focus on development as often as we’d love to. What makes you a creative couple? Lisa: We’re both professional web developers, which is a pretty creative endeavor unto itself. Chad: The band that Lisa referenced will be reborn this year, but we’re working much harder to make it a shared endeavor this time (previously it was mostly my baby). How does your relationship inspire you creatively? Chad: Hmm… Tough question! Chad: Ok, Lisa’s answer reminded me of something.
Travis Lampe Illustration 19 Things You May Not Have Known About Star Wars There are certain movie franchises that enthrall almost everyone, and Star Wars is one of those. It is a movie that you can watch over and over again (as I have), and no other movie trilogy has quotes and characters so deeply ingrained in the public psyche. If you go up to anyone and say, “May the Force be with you,” most people will know exactly what you mean. The movies elicit such a strong fan following that most of the Easter eggs within each of the movies have been identified (such as the tennis shoe asteroid), but there are a few that have managed to stay hidden. But, thanks to the internet, after the jump are 19 things you may not have known about Star Wars. Category: Cool Stuff, Film Tags: George Lucas, Star Wars, Trivia Advertisements
