Chocolate Cake Batter Milkshake Chocolate Cake Batter Milkshake Drinking a whole chocolate cake batter milkshake sure beats the one or two measly licks of the batter that’s on the beaters after making a chocolate cake. Then again I’ve never met a batch of cake batter, brownie batter, or cookie dough that I didn’t love to snag a few tastes of. Plus, it’s summer and it’s hot. And I’d rather drink my cake than turn on the oven and bake one. Have your cake and eat it, too. Have your cake and drink it, too. But it really doesn’t have to be summer to drink cake batter. Cake batter is a food, or drink, for all seasons. There’s a generous scoop of ice cream and a cup of whole milk in the milkshake making it plenty creamy and very rich. Gather your all-star lineup of ingredients. You could likely use cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and flour in proper ratios totaling one-half cup to approximate cake mix (see recipe notes) instead of using actual cake mix. Garlic Parmesan Pull-Apart Bread I once made the driest pancake in the world. I can see you sitting at home, staring at your computer screen, and scoffing at my bold statement. Driest pancake in the world? Yeah, right. How would you even know? Let me share my story with you. A few years back, I made chocolate chip pancakes. Quickly flash to the next morning. Still cold. Confusion. Was the microwave broken? I got angry, as one will when they want food and want it now. When I took it out, the pancake was slightly less cool. It took me a few hours to realize what had happened. It only stands to reason that my pancake was so utterly dry that there wasn't enough water in it to be absorbed by the microwaves. Thus, the world's driest pancake was born. And to think I took a bite... Luckily, this Garlic Parmesan Pull-Apart Bread is definitely not dry. One Year Ago: Chocolate Orange Miniature Cakes Garlic Parmesan Pull-Apart Bread Yields 1 loaf In a large mixing bowl, stir together the yeast and water. Punch down the dough.

Treats: Battenberg Cake Reading about all the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations this week inspired me to make a quintessential British dessert. Ironically enough the origins of Battenberg Cake are actually German. Pastry chefs in the court of Queen Victoria, herself of German ancestry, created the marzipan covered sponge to celebrate the wedding of Victoria's namesake granddaughter, Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine, to Prince Louis of Battenberg. In all the times that I've visited England I never actually tasted Battenberg cake but knew of it, especially because of the pink checkerboard design. How cute would it be at afternoon tea or a bridal or baby shower? The recipe can be found here from the BBC website. On another note..... Today is my very dear friend Gullet's birthday so I am sending her my best wishes.

The Best Way to Cook Zucchini and Carrots | Voracious Vander One of my greatest joys in life is making vegetables taste good to other people. When someone is especially excited about a tasty piece of zucchini I made, I am a happy girl. You’re already rolling your eyes I know, but stay with me. Zucchini and carrot “fries” are my quiet specialty. They make a great snack or side to burgers and sandwiches. The trick here is roasting. Follow these simple steps and you’ll be on your way to making some shockingly delightful savory treats that you can feel awesome about. 1. 2. 3. 4. (Today I used salt&pepper + smokey paprika and crushed red peppers.) Lightly toss your vegetable batons with a tablespoon or so of olive oil (not too much) and the herbs and spices. 5. jewish apple cake recipe if you take a look at all of the recipes i’ve made for this blog so far, i don’t think there’s one that you can’t eat for breakfast. apple cake is certainly no exception. in fact, it may be the perfect breakfast cake – it’s got apples and orange juice in it, so there are two servings of fruit right there. it’s also a great opportunity to use in-season apples, which just become all the more irresistible during the fall. and although the apples i bought were all about 2/3 the size of a normal apple (weird!) they didn’t stop this cake from tasting amazing. although i thought i had triumphed in the face of defeat, i quickly learned that it’s never too late for baking tragedy to strike. making a rookie mistake, i tried to remove the cake from the tube pan before it had completely cooled. to my horror, the following happened. any sensitive readers or children may want to turn away from the screen. thankfully, the cake still tastes unbelievable. enjoy, but don’t make the same mistake i did!

Foodie Fridays: Fresh « Canadian Gift Guide Foodie Fridays: Fresh Posted by CGG on October 14, 2011 · 32 Comments If you’ve been lucky enough to visit one of the mini-chain of restaurants in Toronto known as Fresh, then you’ll be super excited for this post. And if you haven’t and you’re here for the good word on vegetarian / vegan cooking as part of vegetarian awareness month, then read on! As I spelled out above, Fresh is a small chain of Canadian-owned and operated restaurants, which originally started as a juice bar twenty years ago. Everything on their menu is in fact, vegan, although they offer some vegetarian dishes at their takeout counter. Along with dozens of recipes in the usual categories of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees, brunches, sweets, and sauces, the cookbook also includes recipes for a bunch of their legendary juices. Generally speaking, I’d say this is a book for someone that’s relatively comfortable with cooking, particularly vegan cooking. Tangled Thai Salad Serves 1 as a meal 1 lime wedge 1. 2.

Cookies and Cream Cheesecake My husband has always been a big fan of cookies and cream ice cream and cheesecake, and I’ve always been a big fan of making him food that he loves. It’s only taken me nine years of marriage to come up with the idea of combining his favorite ice cream with his favorite dessert. I was both pleasantly surprised and quite dismayed to realize that cookies and cream cheesecake is quite possibly the best dessert out there. Pleasantly surprised because I’m normally not a fan of cookies and cream unless it’s just a plain ol’ Oreo and dismayed because I couldn’t stop sneaking into the kitchen to take just one more bite. The crust is made out of Oreo crumbs and melted butter. The cheesecake whips up quickly and then you just crumble up some more Oreos and stir them in. And let’s face it, I need the extra points after making him search high and low for a missing Christmas gift the other night. He just shook his head and hugged me when I told him that yes, yes it was under the tree the whole time.

Summer salsa My family regularly eats tacos for dinner with pretty standard toppings and sides. As is often the case, I like to mix it up with something new. On a girls' weekend away, someone made a similar salsa and we all raved at its fresh flavor! Here is my version. Summer salsa 1 small onion, finely chopped 1 garlic clove, finely chopped 1 lime, zest & juice pinch of salt drizzle of olive oil 4 roma tomatoes, chopped 1/4 orange bell pepper, chopped 1/4 red bell pepper, chopped 1/4 yellow bell pepper, chopped 1 jalapeno, seeded & diced 1 c. black beans 1 c. frozen corn 1/2 c. chopped cilantro 1. 2.
