...love Maegan: Silver & Gold Glitter Manicure ~ Nails for a New Year Fashion+Home+Lifestyle
My husband LOVES when my nails are painted and if you’re a long-time reader, you know why so doing them to share here, with you, is just an added bonus. Sometimes I need dual motivation to succeed at certain tasks or it’s just not worth my time. But I’ll admit I’ve been loving all my fun manicures as of late. I wanted something bright and festive and fun for New Year’s Eve and didn’t want to stick to just gold or just silver so I combined the two by painting half of my nail with one and the other half, with the other. 1.Nicole by OPI – “Make U Smile” 2.Sephora by OPI “Only Gold For Me” 3.Chanel Extreme Brilliance 4.White Nail Polish {I used Wet n’ Wild from literally 100 years ago. * 3 coats of white nail polish. * 1 coat of chunky silver glitter on half of nail… 1 coat of chunky gold glitter on the other half. * 1 or two coats of your favorite top coat. DIY Drippy Nails We were immediately inspired the moment we saw bare nails with blood-like, drippy polish accompany Prabal Gurung‘s spring collection at New York Fashion Week. Halloween is one of our favorite holidays and thus, the timing couldn’t have been better to recreate this deliciously daring DIY for our phalanges. Though a more vampy, burgundy color went down the runway, I went for more vibrant red . . . but the best part about this tutorial is that you can make it your own with just about any color, for any season! You’ll need: Dip the toothpick into the nail polish bottle so that the tip collects a round bead of polish. Place the bead of polish on a bare nail and drag it upwards, creating a tapered line. Create two to three more tapered lines, re-dipping the toothpick into the polish each time. Reload the toothpick with polish and drag a line across the tip of the nail. Repeat the steps on the other nine fingers and voila, you’re done!! (all images by HonestlyWTF)

Newspaper Nails A few weeks ago I shared in this post that I learned how to do this amazing thing called "newspaper nails." Since I love words, and reading, and books, it has inevitably become my favorite manicure. Want to learn the how-to? First, gather your supplies. You will need white nail polish, newspaper, rubbing alcohol, and clear shiny polish for the top coat. Step one: Grab some newspaper and cut it into pieces big enough to cover your nails. Step two: Paint your nails white. Step three: Dip a piece of newspaper into the rubbing alcohol and saturate them well. Step four: Press the bit of newspaper on your fingernail hard for about three seconds and peel it off. Step five: Top coat time! Now admire your creation; and try not to chip your nails the first day like I all-too-often do.

Nail Art Tape & Sequins Tutorial Nail Art Tape & Sequins Tutorial I've seen this look a few times and every time I kept thinking I have that glitter, I should do that! I haven't done anything with my nails for about two weeks so I thought now is the time to do the sequin nails, I have put it off enough! I gave it a try and I am very happy with how it came out, my ring finger is a little messy but I still like it. Here's what you'll need: A top coat (I use Rimmel Base and Top Coat), base color, sequins glitter, & nail art tape. First, prep for your manicure, to make it last longer. Apply one or two coats of your base color. *I waited till it was dry to apply the glitter but next time I will try it while still wet. With a little clear polish on your toothpick pick up a piece of glitter. Apply the glitter to your nail. *As you can see in my picture it is starting to get messy. Continue adding sequins until you are happy with the look. Apply half of your index finger with glitter. Cut off some tape from your roll. Like it?

How To: Splatter Paint Nails | Pretty Gossip With the Olympic trials in full swing and the 4th of July right around the corner, I decided to get patriotic with my nail art this weekend! I searched for a quick and easy way to wear all 3 colors of the American flag and decided that splatter paint would be the perfect (and easiest) way to do it! What you’ll need: - 1 paper plate (Thick or waxed paper plates work best. Foil is also an option) - Tape and scissors - A couple of Q-tips - Nail polish remover - 1 straw cut in half. Using a shorter straw will give you more control over the splatter. - Any 3 nail polishes colors. I chose an opaque white, and shimmery red and blue nail polish to add some sparkle and dimension. How to Splatter Nail Paint: Paint your nails opaque white and let dry. That’s it! Have fun!

May 2012 I've got some YUMMY swatches today! Have you ever heard of Sation polish? It's the signature brand of Miss Professional Nail. They recently re-branded and completely modernized the brand, making it more modern with a custom-made bottle and brush. The brush's bristles were all very even on the bottles I was sent, and the shape was great. All the polishes I'm going to show you are formaldehyde, DBP & toluene-free, available at Miss Professional Nail for $5. First, let's look at three polishes from their new limited summer collection, California Gleamin', which you can buy soon this week over at Miss Professional Nail. This is Love at First Lavender. Next is Fan the Flames Fuchsia. Another eye-catching shade, Fan the Flames Fuchsia applied flawlessly as well in two coats. The last polish from California Gleamin' doesn't fall in the same realm as the previous two, so I'm curious to see what the rest of the line holds that would tie this in. This is Seriously Slate. Were you counting?
