Rattrap Rattrap is a Maximal from the Beast Era portion of the Generation 1 continuity family. I'm not a rat. If I'm any rodent, it's the loyal capybara, king of the rats... no, wait. 3d illusion Video Up next 3:25 2:18 1:25 1:42 5:57 4:33 1:57 1:01 4:11 6:29 3:36 Caption Languages English Background Transparency Glass Bead Game as Game Designer's Holy Grail In this piece, I want to lay out the essence of the game genre called Glass Bead Games, and to suggest why I consider the development of successful, playable Games in this genre to be something approaching a "Holy Grail" for game designers. I intend to do this -- paradoxically -- without quoting from Hermann Hesse's book Magister Ludi / The Glass Bead Game, which is the inspiration for the GBG genre. This should permit game designers who are unfamiliar with Hesse's work to grasp the essence of Hesse's Game in a "Hesse-free" context -- thus perhaps freeing up the imagination from some of the specifics of the Game as Hesse described them for his own novelistic purposes -- and also allow those who are already familiar with his work to see the Game in a fresh perspective. Chinese Citizens Respond Violently To Government Beatings "This Is A Problem For All Of America" Manifesto: The 21st Century Will Be Defined By Games Previous centuries have been defined by novels and cinema. In a bold manifesto we’re proud to debut here on Kotaku, game designer Eric Zimmerman states that this century will be defined by games.ore Below is Zimmerman’s manifesto, which will also appear in the upcoming book The Gameful World from MIT press. We invite you to read it, to think about it and even to annotate it. RAP NEWS History is happening The time has come to turn our focus onto the very medium which allows us to connect: The Internet. As we know it today, it has only been around for a short time: it's still an adolescent; still changing and growing. But even as we speak, powerful forces and interests are vying to influence and shape it’s nature as it reaches full maturity. And since humanity’s destiny and that of the Internet are intimately connected, it would be wise to be ask: how is the Internet doing? If the Internet could speak to us as a human today, what kind of person would it be? And most importantly, what kind of a person will it become in the future?
On the HipBone and Sembl games: update [ brief intro by Charles Cameron, then shorter version of Dr. Cath Styles' presentation of Sembl at the National Digital Forum in New Zealand, 20 November 2012 ] . Charles writes: I’ve been working for almost twenty years on the development of a playable variant on Hermann Hesse‘s concept of the Glass Bead Game. It’s an astonishing idea, the GBG — that one could build an architecture of the greatest human ideas across all disciplinary boundaries and media — music, religion, mathematics, the sciences, anthropology, art, psychology, film, theater, literature, history all included — and it has engaged thinkers as subtle as Christopher Alexander, the author of A Pattern Language [See here, p. 74]. Manfred Eigen, Nobel laureate in Chemistry and author of Laws of the Game [see here], and John Holland, the father of genetic algorithms [see here].

Dancers among us “The inspiration for this book came to me one afternoon as I watched my son, Hudson, playing with his toy bus. I was trying to keep pace with his three-year-old mind as he got deeper and deeper into a fantasy involving nothing more than a yellow plastic box and armless figurines. At least that’s what I saw. He saw frantic commuters rushing to catch the 77 local bus to Australia. He jumped in place, mouth open and slapping his knees, joyously reacting to a world I couldn’t see, but one powerfully present for him.”
BACK TO THE FUTURE : Irina Werning I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… Two years ago, I decided to actually do this.
