Ten Good Online Tools for Creating Mind Maps
Creating mind maps or webs is one of my favorite ways to organize ideas and information. I've often had my students create mind maps as an exercise in making visual connections between important concepts, events, and people in a unit of study. The following free tools offer good options for creating mind maps online. MindMup is a free mind mapping tool that can be used online, with Google Drive, and on your desktop. MindMup works like most mind mapping tools in that you can create a central idea and add child and sibling nodes all over a blank canvas. MindMup nodes can contain text and links. Lucidchart offers a simple drag and drop interface for creating flow charts, organizational charts, mind maps, and other types of diagrams. Coggle is a collaborative mind-mapping service that is very easy to use. Simple Surface is an online whiteboard tool that you can use to collaboratively create outlines and mind maps. Spider Scribe is an online mind map creation service.

Directing your thinking series Many of us have learned to outline information in our studies, as: First item Second item sub item sub item sub sub item sub sub item Third item Alternatives to outlining are mind- and concept-mapping. How do I map? Think in terms of key words or symbolsthat represent ideas and words: Other options for mind-mapping: a pencil (you'll be erasing!) Write down the most important word or short phrase or symbol for the center.Think about it; circle it. Working with Dropbox
MindMup allows you to store your maps on Dropbox. Dropbox support is implemented as an extension, so you have to activate it before use. Activating the extension Click on Extensions in the top menu, then tick the box next to Dropbox, and then click on the Close button. Saving a map to Dropbox To save a map to Dropbox, or move an existing map to Dropbox, select File->Save As from the main menu, or click the storage type dropdown next to the top-right save button, then select Dropbox. Authenticating with Dropbox The first time you try to save or load a map using Dropbox, MindMup will ask you to authenticate access to your Dropbox account. If you are not logged in to Dropbox in the current browser session, the pop-up window will first ask you to log in. The pop-up window should now close, and MindMup will continue with the operation that required authentication. The authentication is then stored in your local browser session.
