Lots of Bracelets

Lots of Bracelets
Lots of bracelets I’m lucky enough to be going away for a week, which means I will not be posting next week. You may be hearing about my holiday next time I post! In the meantime here is a quick post about some bracelets I have been busy with this week. As you may be aware I am on a bit of a mission to bust some stash so the multi-yarn one is using up a few odds and ends. I was experimenting with some intarsia, nothing very fancy, but a nice quick project if you have some yarn to use up. Blue intarsia bracelet Green glass beads The green beaded bracelet is one of my shamballa bracelets. Stranded beaded bracelet with small and facetted beads The black beaded bracelet uses up some leftover metallic yarn (it is surprisingly soft as well as sparkly) and uses my beaded crochet bracelet pattern. Plaited Pattern for Blue Square Intarsia Bracelet: You will need two small amounts of dk yarn in complementary or contrasting colours and a size 4mm hook. R1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc to end, ch 1, turn.

Scottie Dogs Garland Scottie Dog Garland I spotted these cute little dogs on Ravelry, and managed to get myself in the testing pool for the pattern. I’m really pleased with how they came out! The dogs come in 4 different sizes so you can even make cushion sized ones. I made the small, medium, and large options, but used decreasing hook sizes with each size up so that they came out roughly the same size for my garland (details below). Silver Dog To make the garland, after I had made the dogs I used left over yarn to make a chain. To make the flowers I used 2 rounds of my flower pattern (available here) in the same pink yarn I used for a couple of the bows. Grey Dog I used stash yarn for this project (the stripy dog was born out of running out of white yarn): Grey: Sirdar snuggly (DK) Silver: Patons Valiani (Aran) White: Reclaimed (lace weight) – I used 2 strands together for small dogs Pink: Sirdar Bamboo (DK) Here’s a summary of which hooks/sizes I made: All hung up :) Like this: Like Loading...

Crochet flower corsage I was making a flower to use on my apron, but decided it didn’t work… Never mind, a couple of chain straps and a button loop re-purposed it into a flower corsage. I just added an extra petal round to this flower pattern. Who needs an excuse to wear a little (more) crochet? Like this: Like Loading... Diamond Scarves A themed gift I mentioned in an earlier post about my grandparents upcoming diamond wedding celebrations. Not being able to afford a gift of real diamonds, I’ve made diamond themed scarves instead! For my Nanny The heather coloured one is for my Nanny (who my shop is named after). Chunky diamond infinity scarf – For my Grandad The chunky grey scarf started off being this pattern I mentioned previously in my zigzag scarf post. Diamond pattern with ribbing Pattern (for chunky grey diamond infinty scarf): I used Wendy Serenity Super Chunky wool and a size 9mm hook (3 skeins – 240m). Special stitches: Front post treble crochet 2 together: fptrc2tog This makes a V-shaped stitch in front of the work with the two arms of the V being worked around the posts of sc stitches 2 rows below. Work the first fptrc2tog as follows: The remaining fptrc2tog stitches of round 2 are worked the same but with the first arm of the V worked around the same post as the last arm of the previous stitch. Yarn over.

Gingham Scarf with Scalloped Edge For my sister This is one of my favourite items made this Christmas. It was for my sister in law and made out of cotton yarn as she cannot always wear wool next to the skin. I love the effect of little crocheted squares all sewn together but hate the effort involved! I added the scalloped edge to pretty it up a bit, but without looked good too. Pattern The scarf is constructed by crocheting two threads together at once. Use a 5mm size hook (the yarns will be crocheted together. Wind the coloured yarn into 4 balls with a ratio of 2:2:2:5.Wind the white yarn into 3 balls with a ratio of 2:2:5. To keep the yarn from tangling, I threaded each of the smaller balls through holes on a laundry crate I had handy. Lengthways balls of yarn kept tidy in a crate Special stitch: modified double crochet: dc’ Used to change thread colours between the different squares. After 2 rows Tips: I would advise weaving in ends as you go. Front of work detail Scalloped Edging Scalloped edge detail End result Like this:

Waffle Knit Snood Ready to wear If you have been following my blog you will have realised that I like to crochet. I learned to knit before I learned crocheting but I have never been very good- I think the main problem with knitting is it takes longer (ok, I should probably practise more!) I have had this chunky bamboo wool in my stash for a while now- it’s really soft. I made this for me but it looks like it may get shared with my husband since the colour and pattern are both very gender neutral and he likes how soft it is too! Waffle knit Pattern: Cast on any multiple of 3 + 1 stitches. Row 1: Slip st as if to knit, *p2, k1, repeat from * to end Row 2: Slip st as if to purl, *k2, p1, repeat from * to end Row 3: Slip st as if to knit, k to end Row 4: Slip st as if to purl, p to end Repeat rows 1-4 until you have the desired length for a snood or scarf. I used a crochet hook to single crochet my ends together to form a loop because the wool was too chunky to go through any needles. Like this: Like Loading...

Lobster Cord Bracelets Bracelets made with lobster stitch cord I recently came across lobster stitch cord in the free ebook Priscilla’s Crochet. I hadn’t heard of it before, so I thought I’d give it a try since it is always good to learn a new stitch, and cords can come in pretty useful for bag handles etc. Lobster stitch cord I must admit that the directions were a little confusing and when I searched online, it took me a while to find a good explanation, and that was on a forum, so I thought I’d post a tutorial here since it is actually very easy with a few pictures. Plain lobster st with central mother-of-pearl button Once I’d figured out how to do it I realised this cord could be useful for jewellery making because there are a couple of places you can add beads to for different looks. How to make lobster stitch cord: To begin, chain two and the sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. After 1st sc Look carefully at the work; the completed stitch points down the hook towards your hand. Pivoting the work. Sc completed.

Easy Textured Cowl Matching Cowl and Gloves pattern As promised, here is the matching Cowl to my Easy Textured Fingerless Gloves, which I posted last week. Once I had decided what to do with this yarn this set worked up nice and quickly, and are keeping me lovely and warm this November. I’m actually wearing them indoors to save putting on the heating too much! I have had lots of fun experimenting with different ways of buttoning this cowl. I hadn’t realised there would be so many options when I designed it!

Easy Textured Fingerless Gloves Nice and warm! I love this textured yarn! However, it took me a while to figure out what to do with it. I guess I have a tendency to want to try elaborate stitch patterns, but with a textured yarn fancy stitches just don’t show very well. Added to which they were not so flattering to showing the yarn off well. So, I have kept this project simple, which makes it nice and quick to work up a pair of fingerless gloves and matching scarf (look out for this pattern next week!) Carved coconut shell button I thought these carved coconut buttons matched the natural feel of the yarn, which is an alpaca mix so it is lovely and warm! Scroll down for pdf patterns! V-stitch worked in textured yarn You will need: 140m SMC Aventica Supreme yarn (aran or worsted weight)Size 5mm hook2 large buttons (approx. 28mm diameter) Pattern (make 2): To make longer or shorter gloves just add or remove multiples of 3 to the starting chain, and increase or decrease the number of V sts (dc, ch1, dc) accordingly.
