Here is what Zentangle founders Rick Roberts and and Maria Thomas have to say about the Kit: “When we designed our Zentangle Kit, a main guideline was to use quality materials. In my opinion, the most valuable item is the Tutorial on DVD – this alone is worth the cost of the Kit. The kit’s DVD is almost 29 minutes long and is without audio except for Rick’s soothing flute music as background to Maria’s drawing. A new and improved box Place your order now

Bubbles Historically, New Years is a time for making resolutions. A time for looking at what happened in the previous year and thinking about all the things we will change to make the coming year a better one. I hadn't actually thought much about resolutions this year and wasn't really planning on making any but then I read this post by Jenn at Girl Defying Gravity. This year Jenn has decided to make anti-resolutions. And then it hit me. Now I'm no fool. While I was pondering this concept, I started to think about the Zendala Dare and how this "let's subtract rather than add" strategy might apply. Zendala Dare #39 - ZenDon't This week when you find yourself doing something you would normally do with your Zendala, don't do it. This week: If you normally use black and white. The template I have made for this week is also special. Here's the template: For my ZenDon't I tried to let go of many of the things that sometimes stall my creativity. I have a tendency to follow the template very closely. Erin

How to Find Tangle Patterns for Zentangle and ZIA The first place to start is right where you are. While looking around for Zentangle ideas, my gaze lit upon my bookcase. As I looked I could see the books made quite an interesting pattern. I started scribbling down a rough design and lo and behold, there was a very usable tangle. Check out your house plant leaves or look in your yard. Don't forget the TV either – sometimes you will catch a glimpse of an interesting pattern that's just asking to be tangled. Wander around your home with a small sketchbook or camera and really look at objects to see if they inspire a tangle pattern. Blending and the Tortillon Fantasy Art School Tortillons (Smudge Sticks) Tortillons are rolled tubes of paper that are used to smudge drawings. This is a very useful skill and it adds quite a lot to your drawings. Tortillons come in many different lengths and widths and you can buy them very cheap in art stores. I recommend you buy or make a large selection of tortillons. Smudging with a Tortillon - Here is an example of how a smudge stick can add to the quality and look of your drawing. How to Make a tortillon (smudge stick) Take a regular piece of drawing paper. Now take your three inch piece and draw a line like this the cut along the line and discard the corner. Now starting at the pointed end roll it up into a tube. Now push a wire coat hanger or similar object right into the middle of the rolled tube. Now wrap a layer of tape around it to hold it in place and you are done. It may take a little bit of practice to make tortillons well but they are not that hard and you will quickly make some great ones.
