Canker sore relief with natural bee propolis Wed. Feb. 12, 2014 by Karen Sanders, staff writer (NaturalHealth365) There is no doubt about it – aphthous ulcers – more commonly known as canker sores – can be excruciatingly painful. They are also surprisingly common; up to 20 percent of the population has, or will have, one of these troublesome mouth lesions, which can linger for up to two weeks and cause severe stinging sensations that make eating and talking difficult. To make matters worse, doctors don’t really know what causes canker sores – although some nutrition experts believe vitamin deficiencies may be to blame in some cases – and there is no conventional ‘cure’. Once again, Mother Nature comes to the rescue – propolis, a substance made by bees, is emerging as a drug-free treatment – which can not only relieve symptoms but help to limit outbreaks of recurrent aphthous ulcers. What exactly is propolis? Also called bee putty and bee glue, propolis is a resinous substance used by bees to caulk, seal and secure their hives. Dr.
DIY all-natural eye-emphasizing mascara Mascara is the one cosmetic I wear on a daily basis, and the one item in my regular beauty routine that, up until now, I have still been purchasing ready-made (as opposed to making it in my kitchen). You see, I’ve tried to make my own mascara in the past (oh, have I tried), but all of the recipes called for coconut oil. While this may work outdoors in the wintertime (burr), since coconut oil has a melting point of 76°F, it was constantly smudging all over my face! I love the ingenuity of these DIYs but they were just not working out for me. So I gave up. So I did. Ingredients*: 2 teaspoons of pure aloe vera gel. *Makes 1 tube of mascara Directions: Mix all of the ingredients together until smooth and consistent. To fill the tube, use an oral syringe (these can be purchased at the drugstore for a few dollars and will make the process significantly more simple). That’s it! Unlike the coconut oil DIY mascaras, this mascara dries on the lashes and so does not smudge.
Tinctures Are the (Totally Legal) Frontier of Herbal Healing Boil down all of the acupuncture, herbs, reiki, meditation, yoga, and general talk about "well-being," and you've found the core of what Eastern medicine is really about: taking an active, mind-body approach to healing. It's less about pills and cures than it is a steady, constant state of well-being. Although the Western world likely won't eschew prescription pads for acupuncture appointments anytime soon, there has been a spike in curiosity about the philosophy of Eastern medicine—and it starts with what we ingest. Perhaps the easiest entry point for those curious about what we have dubbed "alternative healing" is through tinctures. Lined up in tiny glass jars like so many naturopathic soldiers at your local Whole Foods or health food store, tinctures offer possible solutions not just for physical ailments (insomnia, constipation, hacking coughs), but emotional and psychosomatic issues (depression, anxiety, ennui). The secret to making delicious green juices Mon. Feb. 3, 2014 by Linda Kordich (NaturalHealth365) Making green juice delicious is as easy as what I call using the ‘magic 3’ – and boy are they magical. It’s amazing just how much this simple little secret can change the way our taste buds react to dark green juice recipes. Believe it or not, even your children will love green juices – if you make them correctly. Okay, get your pen and paper out – here’s the easiest way to make those healthy green juices come alive and taste spectacular! 1. 2. 3. *Note: We do not recommend adding any other fruit into the green juice combinations – because if you add too much fruit, you will mitigate any real value in absorption of nutrients, and especially the tonic then becomes less (by far) alkaline, and most fruits are high in sugars. If you use the following leafy and nutritious greens, then the ‘magic 3’ will dramatically improve the taste of your health beverage. Make 70% of your tonic made from any one of the top 10 greens. How to Save Yourself If You Choke Alone Heather CallaghanActivist Post Have you ever heard or spoken the tired line of "single-dom" - but if I don't get married, I might choke alone and die and no one will ever find me in my apartment until weeks later... But married people choke too - anyone can and they might be alone. The method of running into or bending over a couch arm has worked for people, but it doesn't seem fail proof when you think of the abdomen clenching up in anticipation. And, what if there is no furniture; what if you are driving; what if you are too weak to perform the Heimlich maneuver on yourself? This method created by Firefighter/medic Jeff Rehman is the simplest and most effective way to self-perform a life-saving maneuver while choking. It can be done anywhere where this is ground beneath you. It involves a belly-flop like maneuver that can quickly force air out of the lungs, dislodging the object or food. Whatever you do, do not panic. Image: A.D.A.M
