Miley Twerking On Things We Should Talk About "[I]n the late 1990s, the top US Treasury officials secretly conspired with a small cabal of banker big-shots to rip apart financial regulation across the planet." Back in April a garment factory collapsed in Savar, Bangladesh killing 1,129 mostly female workers and injuring roughly 2,500 more. Most of the clothes we buy from major retailers in the West come from a global network of factories where women work extreme hours for miniscule pay in deplorable conditions. As early as two weeks after September 11th, U.S. leadership was planning regime change in Syria and several other Middle Eastern countries, starting with Iraq. Egypt. helped_saddam_as_he_gassed_iran
Why Washing Raw Chicken Is Gross Julia Child was a fount of good cooking advice. My favorite tidbit has nothing to do with how to cook, but how to present and take credit for your culinary successes and, more notably, failures: Child said you should never apologize for anything. But one food-prep recommendation that Child often repeated could lead to something for which you would really have to apologize: salmonella. As NPR points out, she, like so, so many other cookbook authors (as Slate adds), recommended washing raw chicken before preparing it. Now researchers at Drexel University and New Mexico State University have launched a PSA that debunks the widely accepted best poultry practice in just 14 seconds. If you’re washing raw chicken, you’re basically splattering bacteria all over the sink, the countertops, your forearms—everywhere that some stray bit of chicken-y water might be splattered.
why is wheat toxic? (CBS News): Modern wheat is a “perfect, chronic poison,” according to Dr. William Davis, a cardiologist who has published a book all about the world’s most popular grain. Davis said that the wheat we eat these days isn’t the wheat your grandma had: “It’s an 18-inch tall plant created by genetic research in the ’60s and ’70s,” he said on “CBS. “This thing has many new features nobody told you about, such as there’s a new protein in this thing called Gliadin. Asked if the farming industry could change back to the grain it formerly produced, Davis said it could, but it would not be economically feasible because it yields less per acre. To avoid these wheat-oriented products, Davis suggests eating “real food,” such as avocados, olives, olive oil, and vegetables. “It’s really a wheat issue.” Some health resources, such as the Mayo Clinic, advocate a more balanced diet that does include wheat.
EPA announces new bee warning labels for neonicotinoid containing pesticides Share Natural News The EPA has developed new warning labels for certain pesticides that contain neonicotinoids. The warning labels come in response to a report released by the European Food Safety Authority, which identified “high acute risks” for bees including exposure to dust in several crops and residues in pollen and nectar. Following the report, the European Commission proposed restrictions and regulations on the use of neonicotinoids. From the EPA’s website: “Based on currently available data, the EPA’s scientific conclusions are similar to those expressed in the EFSA report with regard to the potential for acute effects and uncertainty about chronic risk. Despite being in agreement with the EFSA’s scientific report, the EPA decided not to ban or severely restrict the use of neonicotinoid pesticides until they are re-evaluated. Although this is a big step in protecting our bees, environmental groups claim that it isn’t enough. “We must take immediate action to address this crisis.
