20 Albums To Begin A Journey into Jazz This is for you if you want to a journey into listening to jazz more seriously, or if a friend asks you what jazz records they should listen to in order to appreciate it more fully. It's no good people starting to listen to jazz on the margins; it's like giving a ten year old, Tolstoy's 'War & Peace' to read, chances are they will not make it past the first page. There are some jazz fans that can be awfully snooty about the music they love, they almost try to turn it into a club that refuses to let in new members. So we decided to put together a list of the 20 albums to start your collection with. Every one is a brilliant record and no discerning jazz fan would turn their nose up at any one of them. It includes albums like Miles Davis's, Kind of Blue, Bill Evan's, Waltz For Debby and John Coltrane's, Blue Train; all three consistently make the list of the most important jazz albums ever.

"This is the first instrument that I've ever learned, so I want to keep playing," Castellanos says. Ils n’ont rien perdu depuis "Let’s Get free" paru en 1999, un album bourré de qualités, au contenu politique explicite et aussi radical que ceux dont M-1 et Stic tirent leur inspiration : Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X et surtout les Black Panthers et Huey P. Newton. Ces deux hommes-là, Stic man et M-1, se respectent et forcent le respect en retour. Ils sont anti-capitalistes, anti-impérialistes, le disent fermement en guise de présentation et rappellent qu’il est toujours aussi nécessaire de l’être aujourd’hui que ça l’était hier. And watering. You’d think that living in Oregon would mean you’d never have to water the grass, but you definitely do during the summer months if you want a green lawn. Of course, all those green lawns aren’t linked to green living. Cutting the grass is even worse for the environment, unless you’re using an electric mower or the old-fashioned variety that runs on elbow grease.
kronos-quartet Founded 40 years ago, the Kronos Quartet has broken the boundaries of what string quartets do, commissioning hundreds of new works that have brought jazz, tango, experimental and world music into the genre. The string quartet, based in San Francisco, has released 57 albums, sold more than 2.5 million of those recordings and has become a mentor to several generations of quartets that have followed in its innovative wake. One day earlier this year at a studio in downtown Manhattan, the members — David Harrington and John Sherba, violinists; Hank Dutt, violist; and Sunny Yang, cellist — were game for an experiment: to create a video that would serve as a new way to explain the special mystery of how a quartet communicates. They played and then talked their way through two very different pieces, “Canção Verdes Anos” by Carlos Paredes (arranged by Osvaldo Golijov) and “Aheym” by Bryce Dessner.
