At the TED conference in Los Angeles, architect and computer scientist Skylar Tibbits showed how the process allows objects to self-assemble. It could be used to install objects in hard-to-reach places such as underground water pipes, he suggested. It might also herald an age of self-assembling furniture, said experts.

Generative Art Software Van Gogh Museum’s Relievo exhibition lands in Dubai After stops in Hong Kong and Los Angeles, the exhibition, which offers reproductions of some of Vincent Van Gogh’s most-famous paintings for limited-edition sale, will be on display at the Fairmont the Palm hotel from Wednesday until March 31. ABU DHABI // Dubai is to become the third city in the world, and first in the region, to host the launch of the Van Gogh Museum’s Relievo exhibition. The Dutch painter’s great grand-nephew, Vincent Willem van Gogh, will host the exhibition along with the director of the Van Gogh Museum, Axel Rüger. The Relievo Collection is comprised of nine of the most well-known Van Gogh pieces, including Sunflowers (1889), Wheat Fields Under Thunder Clouds (1890) and The Harvest (1888). The Van Gogh Museum worked with Fujifilm Belgium to develop a technique combining a three-dimensional scan of the paintings with a high-resolution print to produce 3D images of the artist’s trademark thick brushstrokes and heavy layers of paint.
Automake Automake is about combining generative systems with craft knowledge and digital production technologies to create a new way of designing and making objects that blurs the boundaries between maker and consumer, craft and industrial production. Automake’s product creation process in relation to traditional craft and industrial processes. Automake was developed as a research project that aimed to investigate the potentials of using generative systems to digitally design unique one-off works and produce them using a range of rapid prototyping/manufacturing technologies and CNC equipment. We have created form building software that is designed to be extremely user friendly and allow anyone to design their own craft/design works. In addition we have developed a system for outputting construction files so that you can send us your new designs to be physically produced.
NASA proves 3D printing is headed to the stars 3D-printed space technology is no longer science fiction, as NASA and other space companies are making it a reality. Engineers and researchers at the Ames Research Center are already working with 3D printing technology to make it applicable for use in both space travel and the study of our universe, according to a recent CNET report. The potential for 3D printing on space travel is endless. McCune-ication A licensed architect, Michael McCune is a Senior Design Technology Specialist at CASE where he focuses on project consulting and BIM implementation for AECO clients. His expertise lies in the creation and rationalization of complex geometry, computational design and fabrication methods. Significant projects include the Louisiana State Museum and Sports Hall of Fame during his tenure at Trahan Architects and currently The Commonwealth Institute (Parabola) in London with CASE. He is also Community Director of CASE’s online community DesignByMany.com and digital design publication DesignReform.net. Michael earned a Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture from Louisiana Tech University and has led workshops on various design technologies at ACADIA, Tulane University and Louisiana State University. SketchChair SketchChair will be an open-source software tool that allows anyone to easily design and build their own digitally fabricated furniture.
