location course Requirements Students pursuing the baccalaureate degree in nursing science are provided both the theory and clinical base to enable them to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate health care to meet the needs of individuals, families, groups, and communities whose health status varies qualitatively and quantitatively. Students working on a degree in Nursing Science may choose from two options: The Basic Student Option and the Registered Nurse Option. Admission Requirements Students who apply to UAA for the baccalaureate nursing program and who qualify for admission are admitted to UAA as nursing pre-majors. School of Allied Health | Academics | Medical Laboratory Science | Associate of Applied Science The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences provides the following description: At career entry, the medical laboratory technician will be able to perform routine clinical laboratory tests (such as hematology, clinical chemistry, immune hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, coagulation, molecular, and other emerging diagnostics) as the primary analyst making specimen-oriented decisions on predetermined criteria, including a working knowledge of critical values. Communication skills will extend to frequent interactions with members of the health care team, external relations, customer service and patient education. The level of analysis ranges from waived and point-of-care testing to complex testing encompassing all major areas of the clinical laboratory. The medical laboratory technician will have diverse functions in areas of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes.
