Not smart enough? Men overestimate intelligence in science class Breaking News Emails Get breaking news alerts and special reports. The news and stories that matter, delivered weekday mornings. April 4, 2018 / 8:56 PM GMT / Updated April 9, 2018 / 1:00 PM GMT By Maggie Fox By any definition, Gwen Pearson is pretty smart. But she remembers how often she was told she wasn’t good enough, simply because she was female. “As a graduate student, a fellow male student said, to my face, that he had no idea how I was admitted to the program because I clearly wasn't smart enough to be there,” Pearson recalls. “He said having me as a fellow graduate student ‘lessened the value of his degree.’ Women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers have countless similar stories. It finds that men in STEM subject areas overestimate their own intelligence and credentials, underestimate the abilities of female colleagues, and that as a result, women themselves doubt their abilities — even when hard evidence such as grades say otherwise. What helps?

How plastic surgery trends reflect changing beauty ideals | this. If you think having plastic surgery sounds daunting today, spare a thought for those who were bold enough to try it in the 16th century. Back then procedures were usually for people who’d suffered trauma or illness. According to Dr Michelle Smith, Research Fellow in English Literature at Deakin University, constructing a new nose in those days required skin to be removed from the forehead, folded down and stitched, or taken from a patient’s arm. Today’s nose jobs are not nearly as drastic, but we undergo more procedures for beauty’s sake, and in more ways, than ever before. How desirable features have changed over time Aspiring to a particular beauty ideal can be dangerous given that the marks of beauty change over time and differ from location to location. Body-wise, she highlights the Victorian period, in which there were advertisements for products that helped women gain weight because it was an indication of fertility and good fortune. Will perceptions of beauty evolve again?

Gravity Sketch VR software for creative professionals launches beta testing platform A beta version of a virtual-reality programme that gives designers the option to draw and manipulate 3D objects has launched. The Gravity Sketch software, which was first unveiled last year, allows designers to draw, edit and manipulate forms in three dimensions as opposed to on a screen. Since the product was announced, it has been tested among 50 artists and designers that use virtual reality (VR) in their work. Having fixed the majority of bugs and glitches, the company has finally put the application live on the Steam Early Access website for beta testing – trialling in the final stages of development – from the general public. "Unlike other artistic VR creation tools, Gravity Sketch is focused on workflow for creative professionals and bases the creation of geometry in non-destructive solid modelling," said co-founder Oluwaseyi Sosanya. "Designers, architects and engineers can create quick 3D mock-ups of ideas and seamlessly bring them to more complex CAD software."
The Ideal Man: Male Beauty Standards Through History Every culture has an idea of how the ideal man should look. Nowadays, we see beautiful people on social networks, television, catwalks, and walking the red carpet. We tend to see them as an ideal of beauty, creating a standard by which to judge whether or not other people are attractive. The Ideal Man: Youth Equals Beauty Our story begins in the 6th century BCE in Greece. The pose of these statues was most likely derived from ancient Egyptian art and provided a clear and easy-to-understand formula for viewers to interpret. The connection between youth and beauty was important, conditioning the place of the individual in society, who had to live up to the ideal of “arete”, a combination of moral and physical beauty and nobility. Informez-vous.
In-Depth: Looking Into Modern-Day Male Beauty Standards – Westminster Paw Prints On November 8th, 2021, I spent the majority of my time in Journalism slumped over in the 7th-grade girls’ locker commons in utter despair, re-reading and re-phrasing my trio of interview questions. I had decided to write an article regarding how social media affects masculine beauty standards, a topic far out of my comfort zone. Unfortunately, all of my interviews with 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade boys so far had been a disaster. To me, the questions were simple and fairly easy to answer. So, why did all of my interviews consist of stutters, and “I . . . don’t know . . ?” Were my questions too complex for them? Frustrated, I explained my situation to my Journalism advisor, Mr. I’d already heard enough about the many hidden dangers and risks of male beauty standards. The Definition of Beauty The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines beauty as “the qualities in a person or thing that give pleasure to the senses or mind.” Media and Pressure The Danger of Beauty Standards Body Positivity for Men?
