Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and SEO Fitbit has discontinued their Fitbit One step trackers, which seems like a good opportunity to step back and reflect on wearing one for the last decade or so. I’ve enjoyed using Fitbit trackers, but the One devices seemed like they broke down too often. I’m pretty proud that I ended up earning all the activity-related Fitbit badges though: In 2013, I ran a 50 mile race and I took 110,472 steps that day. I think I did some extra steps late that night just in case Fitbit ever increased their top step badge from 100K to 105K or 110K steps. The lifetime miles badge took care of itself as long as I wore my Fitbit. But the Rainbow badge was a little harder: 700 floors in one day. DC isn’t known for its high buildings. That’s how I found myself on a Sunday morning in July 2018. Wait a second–the badge is only for 700 floors, so why did I climb 800+ floors? Overall, Fitbit’s badges have probably pushed me to walk more, along with a goal to get 10,000 steps a day.

After I published the “Top 25 Blogs About Blogging” list I thought that someone would replicate it for the SEO sphere. This list was made using pretty much the same algorithm (only small modifications were made, mainly due to the fact that SEO blogs are more popular). The Top 25 SEO Blogs list, instead, ranks the blogs according to their Google Pagerank, Alexa rank, number of Bloglines subscribers and Technorati authority. Blogs considered: the list considers only blogs that have a high percentage of SEO-related content. Google Pagerank (0 to 10): the actual Pagerank was used on the algorithm.Alexa Rank (0 to 10): Ranges were determined based on the Alexa Rank (i.e., 100k and up, 80k-100k, 60k-80k, 40k-60k) and each range was assigned a number (1 to 10). Google Search Results: Local vs Organic - Who wins? When an internet user wishes to find out information about a person, place, or thing, they will search it online. That search, depending on the subject of the search, will turn up various results. Google, in this instance, might include local results with it’s organic ones which accounts for many of those “ahh thanks Google, that is exactly what I was looking for” moments. For local business owners and other professionals associated with the Search Engine Optimization industry those Google results, and the searcher’s reaction mean the difference between success and failure. Today I’m going to be explaining why localized, or geo-specific, search engine optimization (SEO for short) is an entire different ballgame when compared to organic results in Google. “First of all, what are the differences?” Local results are those shown when searching for a broad (and possibly geo-specific) keyword such as “car dealerships”. “What is more difficult: Local SEO or Organic SEO?”
