This is the right place for you to check how your web hosting company or domain name registrar has set up the DNS stuff for your domain, how your dynamic DNS is going, or to search IP addresses or research any kind of e-mail abuse (UBE/UCE spam) or other internet abuse. This online service is for private non-commercial use only. Please do not abuse. DIG is a service to look up information in the DNS (Domain Name System [RFC1034, RFC1035]), just like nslookup. Announcements | Bluetreehost.com There comes a time in every server's life when it is best to take it out of commission and upgrade to a newer model. For our oldest server, that time has come. Sites which are currently hosted on server1 are planned to be moved to a new server - server5, in the coming days. We are going to be migrating the sites by hand - due a change in the security of PHP on the system some permissions are going to need to be updated and we have the tools in place to do this automatically. This move does not affect all customers, if your site is affected you will be receiving an email to this effect with further details on changes you need to make to your site for the move to occur. The TL;DR version: We are going to be moving sites to the new server during our maintenance period on 2/4/2012, starting at 10:00PM EST and ending at 3:00AM EST the next day (the 5th). The Long and Nerdy Version: The new server is a Xeon E3-1230 with 8GB RAM. Questions?

The Bureau of Communication - Fill-in-the-blank Correspondence How I Launched Hipmunk in an Industry I Initially Knew Nothing About Neither Steve Huffman or I knew much about the travel business when we started Hipmunk together in June 2010. We figured we’d be able to get flight data from any number of places—perhaps by “scraping” it off of other sites, and then linking customers to those sites to book their tickets. Shattering Startup Illusions We were wrong on both counts. Travel sites and suppliers generally respond with threats of lawsuits — not gifts of cash — when you try to scrape their data. Thus began our adventure into the world of business development. Making Contact The first challenge was simply getting in contact with the right people at travel companies. Fast forward a month to July 2010. Once we launched, everything changed. That took us to the point where my living room was reaching maximum human capacity. This is the untold story of so many startups.

SilverBench · Online multicore CPU benchmark / stress test dnscurl.pl name lookup timed out (Amazon Route53) | matt-helps Had some problems this morning migrating one of my domains routing over to route53, and google can't find anyone talking about this issue so (as is my policy) I thought I had better make the information available for other people facing the same issue. I was attempting to use dnscurl.pl to create a hosted zone but would come back with the error: curl: (6) name lookup timed out Ouch, curl --progress-bar -I --max-time 5 --url --insecure failed with exit status 6 I couldn't work out whether it mean that some sort of insecurity had made it fail (please use quotes to show where the command ends in future!). So I ran the command above (from curl onwards) on its own to see what would happen: curl --progress-bar -I --max-time 5 --url --insecure ...and sure enough, back came the error: curl: (6) name lookup timed out Ok, so its time out or the site isn't up at all, not a security related issue. Technical \ How-to | Itay as a Service Microsoft has generously allowed all employees to refresh their primary PCs to fresh and modern ones as part of the Windows 8 launch. We actually got to choose between a handful of very compelling devices. I (as many others) chose the Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch. Here are my thoughts about it. Overall impression The X1 Carbon is a member of the ThinkPad family, so it carries the same qualities as robustness, comfort, and performance, but it does that with a style. Body The materials choice adds to the solid quality feel, but also has a side effect. The body is pretty thin, but not very thin. This of course are very unfair comparisons! The X1 is the thinnest Thinkpad and lightest 14” ultrabook to date, says Lenovo. Screen As mentioned before, the X1 has a 14” screen with 1600×900 max resolution. One thing I absolutely loved about ThinkPads are the matt finish on the screen. Here is how the lap is reflected on the screen. Keyboard The keyboard is excellent – it’s just is. Mouse Ports Summary

Terminal Services (TS) Remote Configuration Primer Part 1 - Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services) Team Blog Hello, my name is Soo Kuan Teo, I work on the Terminal Services Team. I would like to take this opportunity to begin sharing configuration features in TS. TS is about remotability. It allows users and administrators to access their computer resources remotely, just as if those computer resources are available locally. TS has a WMI provider with a rich set of class templates that allows TS to be configured remotely or locally. Please note that in Win2k3/XP, the TS WMI provider is grouped in root/cimv2 namespace. To check the TS Connections setting, you can use the read-only property AllowTSConnections in class template Win32_TerminalServiceSetting To change the TS Connections setting, you can use the Method SetAllowTSConnections in class template Win32_TerminalServiceSetting. There are several ways to use TS WMI, the easy way is through scripting. First we get the wbemService object: Set Service = GetObject("winmgmts:{authenticationLevel=PktPrivacy}! next for each obj in objSet

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Mediocre Entrepreneurs [Editor’s note: James Altucher is an investor, programmer, author, and entrepreneur. He is Managing Director of Formula Capital and has written ten books. His latest books are I Was Blind But Now I See and 40 Alternatives to College. You can follow him on Twitter @jaltucher.] I’m pretty mediocre. I’ve started a bunch of companies. That said, all entrepreneurs should be so lucky. If you want to get rich, sell your company, have time for your hobbies, raise a halfway decent family (with mediocre children, etc), and enjoy the sunset with your wife on occasion, here are some of my highly effective recommendations. - Procrastination – In between the time I wrote the last sentence and the time I wrote this one I played (and lost) a game of chess. Procrastination is your body telling you you need to back off a bit and think more about what you are doing. Try to figure out why you are procrastinating. Procrastination could also be a strong sign that you are a perfectionist. (has never failed)

How To Install HAProxy on Ubuntu 11.04 ~ Bauer-Power Media Happy Monday everyone! I have a pretty good one to share with your today. Over the weekend I stood up an open source load balancer running on Ubuntu Linux and running a free tool called HAProxy. I was originally going to use another load balancing platform called Pound that also does SSL offload, but I decided against it because it would require me changing the way my company’s firewall is configured to ensure that the sites that need to be secured, stayed secured. I decided to go with HAProxy not just because it is simple in that it can load balance anything, including SSL encrypted sites, but because it doesn’t natively do SSL offload on its own, and lets the web servers handle that. So why the write up on how to install it? So here it is, how to install HAProxy: Run sudo apt-get update Run sudo apt-get install haproxy After the install, run sudo nano /etc/default/haproxy and change ENABLED=0 to ENABLED=1 and save it Via [Ubuntu Bugs]
