25 Sewing Hacks that Will Change Your Life. CAGE DRESS DIY. Spring has reached Switzerland.
The trees are bearing leaves once again, the birds are nesting and there are tulips everywhere. It really is a beautiful time to be in Basel and I’m savoring every moment. It’s finally time to unpack my summer clothes. I brought along a little black dress that had been hanging in my closet for many years. It’s one of those handy dresses that you can cram into the smallest corner of your suitcase and doesn’t require ironing (I love those!). Supplies Little black dress Black ribbon (width matching the straps of dress) Scissors Safety pins Needle Black thread Matches Dress form (optional) Method 1) The first step in converting your little black dress into a cage dress is to cut a piece of ribbon large enough to wrap around your head. 2) Burn the ends of the ribbon (to prevent it from fraying) and sew together. 3) Pin the neckpiece in place. 4) Add a few cross pieces of ribbon, pinning and burning the ends as you go along.
WRAP CROP TOP DIY. Jeremy and I have finally returned from our four-month stint in Europe.
While I’ll miss the travelling, excellent food and magical sunsets, it’s always good to come home to San Diego—and all my crafting supplies. Contrary to most peoples’ European adventures, I usually return with an empty suitcase. I get so tired of lugging a heavy suitcase around that I donate most of my clothes to charity along the way. So, left with only a few items of summer clothing, I decided to start sewing my own clothes. TULIP DRESS DIY. While visiting Denmark last spring I noticed this knit tulip dress at the boutique store, Moxy-Copenhagen.
It had everything I searched for in clothing but usually can’t find: something that looks amazing, is super comfy, and doesn’t need to be ironed. On closer inspection the price tag read DKK 799.99 (that’s nearly $140!) , a little out of my price range. Long-awaited paper bag waist skirt TUTORIAL! / Create / Enjoy.

This summer has been so busy with the wedding and honeymoon and all that it's been awkward to find time! Whoo-hoo, this one's a little crazy!
I branched out of my usual ruffle-front routine to make this cute summery tee from a long-sleeved, ancient Gap Favorite Tee. Want the tutorial? Start with a long-sleeved tee. This one had been washed so many times it was getting short in the length and sleeves, and just looked tired. Cut off the sleeves in a raglan style.
(The more you trim off on the neck, the lower your shirt will be in the front. Cut the sleeves into strips about 1.5" wide, depending on how substantial you want your braid trim to look. You'll need six strips total to go all the way around your neck, so cut and then sew the pieces together and press. Domestic Bliss Squared: How to make pillowy, soft, home made gnocchi! A picture guide and recipe. Oh man, gnocchi.
This is probably my kids favorite meal, and certainly one of the grown ups' as well. These tiny pillow like balls of of pasta are soft and chewy and perfect with any kind of sauce, or none at all. By far our favorite though, is what my daughter calls 'basil sauce,' or my home made pesto. Apart from being expensive, I love making things myself. There's something immensely satisfying about creating a food from scratch with your own hands. The answer is no. Domestic Bliss Squared: simple tunic dress sewing tutorial (or, the Cerberus Dress) I've been making a lot of my own dresses lately, if you remember in the last couple weeks I made my high low swing dress and told you how to make it, as well as my sleeveless coat.
This dress I made on a whim, because of the fabric. I was buying fabric for my Halloween costume and found this green fabric with what looks like the Cerberus symbol from Mass Effect (the video game, for those of you less nerdy then Noah and I). Which I've been watching Noah play hours and hours of recently. No really, check it out: Yup. So of course I totally bought the fabric, and brought it home to show him. Regardless of the nerd-tastic beginnings, the Cerberus Dress is a huge success, and super easy to make your own. Domestic Bliss Squared: DIY: Make your own breezy boho dress for summer! It's here you guys.

Good tension produces a smooth stitch without puckers. If the top and bottom threads break in exactly the same location, your tension is perfect. The threads may break in more than one place, but the top and bottom threads will both break at that location. Perfect tension causes both threads to break at exactly the same location If only one of the threads breaks, often in more than one location, that thread is too tight. Either slightly loosen that thread, or slightly tighen the other thread. Incorrect tension causes only one thread to break, usually in more than one location.
