Lucidarchive.com. Complete National Recording Registry Listing Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville. French printer Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville ([e.dwaʁ.le.ɔ̃ skɔt də maʁ.tɛ̃.vil]; 25 April 1817 – 26 April 1879) was a French printer, bookseller and inventor.
He invented the earliest known sound recording device, the phonautograph, which was patented in France on 25 March 1857.[1][2][3] Early years[edit] As a printer by trade, he was able to read accounts of the latest scientific discoveries and became an inventor. Scott de Martinville was interested in recording the sound of human speech in a way similar to that achieved by the then-new technology of photography for light and image. Phonautograph[edit] Dictionary illustration of a phonautograph. From 1853 he became fascinated in a mechanical means of transcribing vocal sounds. To collect sound, the phonautograph used a horn attached to a diaphragm which vibrated a stiff bristle which inscribed an image on a lampblack-coated, hand-cranked cylinder.

This week again teleports me back to my enthusiastic days of embarrassing ignorance whilst relentlessly digging for Soul 45’s around Leicester. Circa Autumn 1969 I’d just heard of a new record shop opened on the Narborough Road, discouragingly named “Elvis Presley Fan Club”. I couldn’t get there quick enough…for a new dig. It was a fair distance from my Aylestone Road training workshop, but I ran there in my lunch break anyway. Oh to get out in the fresh air at lunchtime, nice day for a run. First box I found nowt, same with the second box and I was getting frustrated with seeing black RCA’s of “The King”. The Ghost in the MP3. BOSPORUS BRIDGES Vol.2 - V/A. Oscillation series » Holger Lund: The aesthetics of imperfection and hybridization. What is so interesting about Turkish funk and pop music of the 1960s and 1970s? Turkish funk and pop music of the 1960s and 1970s is very little known outside Turkey, though its special character makes it worthy of consideration.
Not much research has been done on the subject[] and this paper, while imperfect, is a small attempt to take things a step further. To give a first impression, here is a tune by Mogollar called “Cigrik,” recorded at the beginning of the 1970s: Mogollar - Cigrik (0–1.54) 0:00 / 0:00Right-click and save as to download. Today, the periphery is the new center, and B-music (following Andy Votel’s term[]), has become the new A-music (just think, for example, of genres like cumbia digital or favela funk). I am a white middle-class German—how did I get in touch with Turkish music?
