The University of Sioux Falls (USF) is a private Christian university in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. History In 1871, pastors and delegates from nine Baptist churches in the Dakota Territory had their first Baptist Association meeting in Vermillion, South Dakota. In 1899, state legislator James Marshall Lawson proposed a bill to create the school, but there still needed a site and funding. Although the Northern State Teachers College barely survived the Great Depression, in 1939, there were new additions to the campus, and the enrollment increased.
