Is jealousy starting again? Cristiano Ronaldo (38) expressed his dissatisfaction with the Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year.
On the 21st (Korean time), Ronaldo said through the Portuguese media Hecord, “The Ballon d’Or and FIFA The Best Awards have lost trust.”
Previously, Ronaldo did not make it to the finals for the 2023 Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year. On the other hand, Ronaldo's rival Lionel Messi (36) swept the Ballon d'Or and Player of the Year awards.
Regarding this, Ronaldo said, “I’m not saying that Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe don’t deserve it,” and added, “The numbers are not lies. “You have to consider the entire season,” he said.
He continued, “Numbers are facts. You can look at Manchester United or the Portugal national soccer team and exclude me. But the fact is that I scored 54 goals.”
In other words, despite scoring a whopping 54 goals last year, he expressed his dissatisfaction with not only winning the award but not being selected as a finalist. The 54 goals were the most goals scored in the world last year.
Ronaldo recently won the Best Middle East Player Award, the Maradona Award, and the Player of the Year Award at the Globo Soccer Awards held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
However, Ronaldo was completely ignored around the world, and was left out of the final 30 candidates for the Ballon d'Or and bowed his head after failing to win the FIFA The Best Award.
There were no such complaints when Messi won the Ballon d'Or in October last year. The controversy began after he was selected as FIFA Player of the Year.
This is because the FIFA Player of the Year was voted based on performance from December 19, 2022 to August 20 of last year after the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Accordingly, there are many opinions that Haaland or Mbappe should receive this award, not Messi. Of course, Ronaldo was not mentioned as a winner in this controversy.
