The boyfriend of women's tennis world No. 2 Ariana Sabalenka (26, Belarus), Konstantin Koltsov, a former Belarusian national ice hockey player, has been found dead.
"Local police in Miami-Dade (U.S.) received a report of a man's death the previous day," ESPN and Reuters reported on Nov. 19 (local time), adding that "an investigation into the cause of death has ruled out foul play."
Kolthoff was reportedly accompanying his girlfriend, Savalenka, as she competed in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour's Miami Open.
Koltsov played for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the North American Hockey League (NHL) and represented Belarus at the 2002 Salt Lake City and 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Kolthoff and Savalenka have reportedly been dating since June 2021. Savalenka frequently shared photos of the two on her social media until recently. Koltsov even congratulated Savalenka on social media when she won her second consecutive Australian Open women's singles title in January.
Shortly after the news broke, social media also showed pictures of Sabalenka training for the tournament.
Sabalenka will face Paula Badosa (27-Spain-80th) in the round of 64.
