Huang Yi-lin (left) loses the lead as he celebrates near the finish line during the men's 1000-meter roller skating final at the Taiwan National Sports Festival on Wednesday.
Taiwanese roller skater Huang Yi-lin, 28, has earned the nickname "God's Left Foot" at the Hangzhou Asian Games. In the men's 3,000-meter relay final on Sunday, he stuck out his left foot as the last South Korean runner, Chung Chul-won (27), was celebrating to win by 0.01 seconds. "While you were celebrating, I fought to the end," Hwang quipped.
However, less than a month later, Huang Yulin went into "mute" mode. In the men's 1,000-meter final at the Taiwan National Games on Wednesday, he was hit by a "God's left foot" from teammate Zhao Chou-chung, 28, while performing a "premature ceremony". Huang Yulin crossed the finish line with both fists pumped and a bright expression on his face, but his expression quickly darkened when he realized that Zhao Zhuzheng, to his left, had crossed the line first. Video replays showed that Zhao Zhuzheng (1:27.172) was 0.03 seconds faster than Huang Yulin (1:27.202).
Huang Yulin said, "I think I had too much time off after the Asian Games. After returning home, I was diagnosed with the (novel coronavirus) and was not in good shape," Huang said. Huang Yulin also failed to redeem herself in the 14-day relay for Pingtung, finishing second to Kaohsiung City, led by Zhao Zuizheng. "I'm probably the only person in the world who can understand how Huang Yulin is feeling right now," said Chung, who is competing in the roller skating race at the National Games in Naju, South Jeolla Province.
