China wins mixed medley relay 400m... 'Breakstroke Master' Qin Haiyang 3 crowns

Marchand Butterfly 200m Champion, 2 gold medals... Hafnaui becomes the first African to win the 800m freestyle

China has become the World Aquatics Championships mixed medley relay champion.

'New breaststroke champion' Qin Haiyang (24, China) became the first triple crown at the 2023 Fukuoka World Championships.

Xu Ziyu (backstroke), Qin Haiyang (butterfly), Zhang Yufei (butterfly), and Qing Weije (freestyle) of China won the mixed medley relay 400m final at the 2023 International Swimming Federation World Championships held at Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall in Fukuoka, Japan on the 26th with a time of 3:38.57.

Australia came second with a time of 3:39:03, and the United States came third with a time of 3:40:19.

The 400m mixed medley relay was adopted as an official Olympic event starting with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games held in 2021.

At the Tokyo Olympics, Chinese swimming chose the 400m mixed medley relay as a strategic event and won a silver medal.

At the Fukuoka World Championships this time, he wore the crown of 'champion'.

Based on the world championship standards, it is the 'highest ranking in China', surpassing the 2017 Budapest competition (joint 3rd place).

On the 26th, Chin Hai added two gold medals in one day, becoming the first to win three gold medals in the Fukuoka event.

On the 24th, he won the men's 100m breaststroke final by setting a new Asian record of 57.69 seconds.

On the 26th, in the men's 50m breaststroke final held at 9:00 pm, he reached the top with a time of 26:29, beating Nick Pink in 26:59, and an hour later, as runners 2 in the mixed relay, they won the gold medal together.

Qin Haiyang was not a prominent player on the world stage until last year.

But in May of this year he broke into the heart of the world when he set a new Asian record for the men's 100m breaststroke of 57.93 at the Chinese Championships.

In Fukuoka, he increased his speed and finished highest on the podium three times.

Adam Petey (27, England), who holds world records in the 50m breaststroke (25 seconds 95) and 100m (56 seconds 88), did not participate in this competition due to a collarbone injury.

Qin Haiyang expressed her aspirations every time she won a gold medal in this competition, saying, "I will break Petey's world record."

Léon Marchand (21, France) won the men's 200m butterfly final in 1:52:43, winning two gold medals.

Marchand, who finished second in this event in Budapest last year, changed her color to gold in Fukuoka this year.

Last year's gold medalist Christoph Milak (23, Hungary) did not participate in this event.

Marchand is emerging as a star player in the Fukuoka tournament.

He set a new world record of 4:02:50 in the men's individual medley 400m final on the 23rd, the first day of the event, and achieved his second consecutive victory.

'Emperor' Michael Phelps (38, USA) changed his time of 4:03:84, set at the Beijing Olympics in August 2008, for the first time in 15 years, drawing more attention.

Paris, which hosted the 2024 Paris Olympics, is promoting Marchand as 'a player who will shine at the Paris Olympics'.

Ahmed Hafnaui (20, Tunisia) won the men's 800m freestyle with a time of 7:37:00.

This is the first time an African athlete has won a gold medal in the men's 800m freestyle at the World Championships.

Samuel Short (19, Australia) came second with a time of 7:37:76.

In the 400m freestyle, Short took first place and Hafnaui took second place, and in the 800m, the two exchanged places.
