I love the idea of adding electronics to a craft activity. We had fun drawing pictures and learned about the polarity of electricity. How To Make Paper Circuits - KitHub. Bling the Book: Peach and Purple Book with Embedded Paper Circuitry in Cover. The video above features my latest blinged-out book, a Coptic-bound journal with embedded paper circuitry components and hand-painted watercolor covers.

Bling the Book: Peach and Purple Book with Embedded Paper Circuitry in Cover

This is my second attempt to hide and embed the components inside of a book cover. This iteration worked better than my first (the sparkling Sea Turtle), because I figured out that I could put the finished covers into a book press to keep them from warping if I placed a folded dishtowel between the covers and pressing boards. Like the Sea Turtle book, I embedded a switch into the front cover. LED Paper Flower. Creative Paper Circuits with Copper Tape. With paper, markers, LEDs, and copper tape, kids can get a hands-on introduction to electronics and circuits and turn their own drawings and creative projects into ones that light up!

Creative Paper Circuits with Copper Tape

The intersection between art and science is one that holds particular interest for me, and I very much appreciate when my kids have the opportunity to do projects that support their creativity as well as let them get hands-on with science, technology, engineering, and math. These combo art and science projects are sometimes referred to as STEAM, and especially for hands-on STEM activities at home, adding in the "art" component can be especially fun. That Thing There: Paper Circuit Projects from Maker Faire Detroit 2013. These are the "card" projects that I had at Maker Faire Detroit.

I'm dividing the projects in two or three posts because I want to show the circuit paths both with and without notes and I didn't want the length of the post to get too unwieldy. Two quick notes: I took these pictures after Maker Faire and after they were abused examined many times over so they may look a little tired but that's because they are. However, this speaks to the hardiness of these structures. Also, all of these use Jie Qi's ingenious paper battery holder. The link takes you to a page where she generously provides a PDF of the holder to cut out and use as well as a link to a tutorial.

The one shown above is the first card I experimented with. This is the circuit with my (hopefully) helpful notes of what's going on. Ralph Robot There's a note on this one to look here for the reason for the longer piece of copper tape on the "switch". Santa's Treats. Paper circuit – Things made by Becca Rose. This week I had the pleasure to present some of my books at a public talk for the Book Club of California.

The club, which has been in San Francisco for about 100 years, is on the 5th floor of a commercial building a stone’s throw away from Chinatown. Walking into the space is kind of like going back in time. There were columns painted gold, a roman block print frieze ran above the picture rail, and various glass cases filled with special edition books framed the room. (of course!). It was a very nice place to be indeed. Let It Glow Holiday Cards. Favorited Favorite 4 Introduction.

Step #9: Tips & Tricks There are two types of copper tape — one with a conductive adhesive and one without. When using the non-conductive adhesive tape, the copper will only be conductive on the top side. Light-Up Paper Helicopter - chibitronics. Pop Up Circuit Card. We found a project like this on make.com and added a switch to the circuit to make it our own.

We have had so much fun making this with all ages at our community center here in Boston and would highly recommend making them. It is so much fun and you also learn about circuits and get a chance to be creative, inventive and practice troubleshooting. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Have fun "making"!

That Thing There: Paper & Soft Circuits. Beyond the Museum: Tinkering with Paper Circuits. One of the things that we are currently thinking about in the Tinkering Studio is how we might translate work we are doing on the floor of the museum to after school programs, classrooms, and other formal and informal educational settings. Electronic origami: Input/Output blintz folding. Paper Circuit: Parallel with Pressure Switch. Paper circuits are a great way of adding light to your drawings, origami, or papercraft creations. Instead of using wires to connect a battery to LEDs, paper circuits use conductive metal tape.

You may want to try the Make: Project Simple Paper Circuit first, which appears alongside this project on the one page paper circuit PDF, designed for easy reference in educational settings. Copper tape can be found online at places like Amazon, Sparkfun, and as part of the Circuit Stickers kit at Maker Shed. It can also be found at hardware stores as “slug tape“. Paper Animatronics. Animatronics grew out of the desire to break the limitations of animated films to bring characters into the real world. Our goal is to create the illusion of life with electronic creatures of our own design to tell an original story.

Traditionally, animatronics has been the sole province of highly skilled artists and engineers working with complex mechanisms, found in theme parks. The exquisite entertainment robots they created often cost as much as a house, each. But you can build your own simple animatronic shows using inexpensive and readily available materials.

Paper circuits w/ copper tape. You can quickly create circuits on paper using copper tape, clear tape, and some simple electronics. The image above is from a workshop Jie taught at the Exploratorium museum. Digital Is. As a professional artist, deepening the ways in which seemingly disparate objects and processes are interconnected through locating, and mapping their intersections has been one of the main elements of my studio practice. The Fab Lab tools and working processes create an environment that is well suited to investigating those types of intersections. Bare Conductive.
