The Evolution of the Alpha Male

: The Dissemination of Reliable Knowledge (Cambridge: Cambridge UP, 2010) Mary Morgan explains that sometimes accepted "facts" are false or unreliable. While the spread of facts is to be welcomed, that of false "facts" is more troubling: Constraints on the travels of facts may be seriously detrimental to our well-being. Yet the free market may be equally problematic. The internet is such a free market, but one in which - as is well known - it is difficult to recognise trustworthy facts from untrustworthy ones, an age-old problem of open (or free) product markets that has lead to their habitual regulation, for example to prevent the use of poisonous additives to make bread white, or, in the case of travelling facts, to regulate the claims made for the efficacy of medicines.

The Myth of the Alpha Male › Lou Schuler

It’s kind of like describing someone as a “Type A personality” or saying a particular behavior is “passive-aggressive.” What we really mean, in the case of the guy labeled Type A, is that he works hard and gets a lot done. If we say someone’s passive-aggressive, as often as not we’re slapping a pathology on someone who just doesn’t care enough to give us whatever we need at the moment we need it. But calling someone an alpha male is both more specific and, in most cases, more respectful. There’s also an aspirational aspect. To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

What percentage of modern men “get it” and of the men who “get it” how many of them have always “gotten it” and how many of them learned to adapt? It is hard to believe there are still naturals out there when feminism is being rammed up the anus of every man before he sprouts his first tooth. As I’ve illuminated in past posts, I don’t think distilling the essence of Alpha ‘presence’ in a Man is as subjective as most people feel compelled to qualify, enumerate or otherwise yammer on about in as personally identifying a manner as they can muster.

Alpha (ethology)

Social groups often follow their alphas into activities In social animals, the alpha is the individual in the community with the highest rank. Male or female individuals or both can be alphas, depending on their species. Where one male and one female fulfill this role, they are referred to as the alpha pair. Other animals in the same social group may exhibit deference or other symbolic signs of respect particular to their species towards the alpha or alphas.

In hierarchical social animals, alphas usually gain preferential access to food and other desirable items or activities, though the extent of this social effect varies widely by species. Alphas may achieve their status by means of superior physical prowess and/or through social efforts and building alliances within the group.[1] The position of alpha also changes in some species, usually through a physical fight between a dominant and subordinate animal. Pecking order. Pecking order or peck order is the colloquial term for a hierarchical system of social organization.

Pecking order

It was first described by Thorleif Schjelderup-Ebbe in 1921 under the German terms Hackordnung or Hackliste and introduced into English in 1927.[1] The original use of pecking order referred to the expression of dominance in chickens. Dominance in chickens is asserted by various behaviours, including pecking, which was used by Schjelderup-Ebbe as a measure of dominance and leadership order. In his 1924 German-language article, he noted that "defense and aggression in the hen is accomplished with the beak".[2] This emphasis on pecking led many subsequent studies on fowl behaviour to use it as a primary observation, however, it has been noted that roosters tend to leap and use their claws in conflicts.[3] The term dominance hierarchy is often used for this type of social organisation in other animals.
