In the case of Snakes, a concept for a modular speaker system, a lot. That’s because the name is meant to evoke its principal design feature, which is formal flexibility. You see, the speakers are shaped in a way that they can connect in either straight or angled sections, so by varying the connections the overall shape of the ensemble can resemble a snake in its variously meandering, sinuous and linear forms.
Controls are positioned at the ends of units, and each module is bluetooth-enabled, thus keeping the product clean and devoid of visually disruptive cables. There are also built-in microphones which makes the product useful as speaker phones for conference calls and hands-free operation. As designer Junonna Trotsiuk explains, “The main feature of the columns is that they easily transform as you like. We hear you Junonna! Via Yanko Design. Pratt GAUD Exhibition 2013. Pratt Institute’s Graduate Architecture & Urban Design exhibition of student work has been curated, designed, and fabricated by a group of students in a course taught by professor Michael Szivos, Softlab principle, alongside with Carrie Mcknelly, and they decided to do the same this year.
Courtesy of Alan Tansey - SOFTlab Each year the course attempts to produce an installation that explores digital fabrication methods, while showcasing the previous year’s student work. Let A Thousand Modules BLOOM - The Daily Module. If there is one word that best represents the human dimension behind the concept of modularity, it is probably “play”.
With its connotations of open-ended, unscripted activity whose purpose is pleasure and exploration, the term play is naturally associated with childhood and by extension with toys, the instruments by which much play is effected. All of which is to say we were a bit surprised to find the inventors of BLOOM, a modular system of public sculpture, describing their creation as an “urban toy”. For while we are huge advocates of the value of play, it wouldn’t have been our first guess as to how one would best define this rather compelling amalgam of public art, modular design, environmentalism and co-creativity.

Dans les années 90, le MIT développait une approche originale de cette question, une "encre électronique" applicable sur différents types de supports dont le papier et c'est là, outre les propriétés spécifiques de cette encre, le point intéressant de cette technologie.
Can City. Aug 18, 2013 Can City by Alexander GrovesAzusa Murakami from uk designer's own words: Studio Swine has made a mobile aluminium foundry which runs on waste cooking oil.
The furnace melts aluminium cans to create a 'Cast On Demand' system for the streets of São Paulo. Working with the waste collectors known as Catadores, they mine the streets for materials to produce a series of furniture with a strong local identity, providing a portrait of the streets. 'Can City' proposes a future possibility where the Catadores (waste collectors) can adopt this system to make use of free metal and free fuel to produce an infinite range of individually crafted aluminium items increasing their income. There must be four separate sections of conductive ink. One acts as a distance sensor and will eventually control the pitch of the audio. This part of the artwork should ideally be as large as possible as the larger it is, the more sensitivity the sensor will have. The other three sections will act as buttons that will allow us to control the frequency of the audio and don't need to be as large. 2.
When it comes to creating your artwork it doesn't really matter how you do it, but the two easiest ways are to either paint by hand or to screen print. Painting is easy, just remember to follow the constraints above.
