This has become an unparalleled disaster, where high level radioactive materials have been released, following hydrogen explosions and the damages to the reactor buildings, into sea water, air and soil, contaminating the environment. Even two months after the earthquake, the reactors show no sign of coming back to control and the situation continues to be extremely unstable. It is feared that there would be immeasurable effects on the health and lives of not only the local residents and the workers at the power plant but also the future children yet to be born. We have always been aware that humans cannot live with nuclear. We are deeply regretting that even though we knew this fact, our protesting voices and actions against nuclear energy have been far too weak.

Japan ignores protests to resume nuclear power

Kazuhiko Shimokobe, the new chairman of Tokyo Electric Power Co., the operator of the Fukushima plant, said on Thursday that the company should be permitted to restart its undamaged plants as a "building block" in the company's efforts to rebuild its business. An estimated 40,000 people protested against the planned restart of the Oi reactor outside the official residence of Yoshihiko Noda, the prime minister, on June 22 and organisers expect an even larger crowd for another rally on Friday. The biggest concern, they say, is that new tests indicate that the Oi reactors sit atop active seismic faults that have only just been identified. "It's crazy to restart Oi before we have made sure that it is absolutely safe to do so," Aileen Mioko Smith, executive director of Green Action, told The Daily Telegraph. Peaceful Anti-Nuclear Protest Flourishes in Tokyo. Tens of thousands of protesters gathered outside of the national Parliament building in Tokyo on Friday to protest the restarting of a nuclear power plant in the country.

Peaceful Anti-Nuclear Protest Flourishes in Tokyo

The demonstration was the 14th anti-nuclear protest to occur since early March in Japan in response to choices made by the current government. In the middle of June, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda announced that the Ohi plant in western Japan would reopen, despite the fact that the vast majority of Japanese citizens oppose the opening of nuclear power plants. Although Noda has claimed that he will ensure that security and safety procedures will be strengthened before the restart at Ohi, memories of the nuclear disaster in March 2011, caused by a massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan which destroyed the Fukushima nuclear power plant, remain vivid in citizens’ minds. After that disaster, all 50 of the operational plants were shut down in Japan. Mr. Hello world. fukushima alert. act now or rest in peace « askaboutfukushimanow. German | French| Italian| English On March 11 it will be one year since our world suffered the greatest global industrial catastrophe in human history, the devastation at Fukushima’s four nuclear reactors in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that overcame all human efforts to tame the lethal use of nuclear power.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes located in lands contaminated by the toxic radioactive brew that is still spewing from the damaged nuclear reactors and irradiated fuel pools into the air, water, and soil. Radiation data is not being shared as the lethal plumes of radioactivity circle the globe, affecting all of humanity, even unto generations yet unborn.
