At the outset I should tell you that there have always been a few who have been put off by the detail of this little FAQ that I wrote about eight years ago. By way of apology, I am a craftsman: a jeweler and luthier as well as an amateur home machinist. Considering that it takes over 200 hours to build an acoustic guitar, I’m used to the kind of slow, fastidious work that produces a near-perfect result. Don’t, however, let the amount of detail in this FAQ scare you off; while this FAQ can teach you how to produce that “wet-look” shine, there is no necessity for you to do so — the reason for the detail is that you should know how to accomplish it even if you’re not going to use it.

As with the repairs I do on estate pipes I sell, I take the utmost care in rejuvenating and restoring your pipe back to as close to original condition as possible. Sometimes however defects in a pipe only appear during the restoration process. Due to this, combined with the sensitive nature of pipe materials, all responsibility is with the owner for any damage done to a pipe during the repair process. In the event that any undisclosed breakage or cracks are discovered, the repair will be stopped and the owner contacted on how to proceed with the requested repairs. All pipes mailed back to you will include insurance. For estimation purposes a USPS Small Flat rate box is approximately $7.50 insured within the United States, and $16.95 Internationally.
