PINTEREST UPDATE: This is a post from 2010. I do not take custom orders, only the tutorial is available. The lamps have held up wonderfully.
How to Make Clothing Buttons from Shrink Plastic…
This tutorial is an old one of mine that’s too good not to share again. Since posting the first time, I’ve had lots of questions about these buttons which will hopefully be answered in this revised post. Equipment Some handy notes: 1.

They can be made with crafting paper or fabric and are super easy to put together. There are so many uses for these banners: summer parties, birthday parties, photography, or simply used as a decoration in a child’s room. I developed my own technique for making quick and easy banners using scrap pieces of fabric and very little sewing. Now I have the option of changing out my banners for the occassion!
Art From Everyday Objects: Paperclips + String
So today I thought it would be a fun challenge to work with paperclips. You can’t get much more mundane than a paperclip! After much thought, I came up with paperclip earrings. If you have paperclips and some pretty cotton string, you can create these beauties. They’d probably look pretty cool as a necklace too. Here is a diagram to show you where to open the paperclip to create this triangular shape.
Ice Fabric Dyeing
Did you say you don’t have snow and want to do some dyeing? Well, before I put up my dyeing stuff, I thought I’d try one more type of dyeing – ice dyeing. For those of us who don’t have snow or would like to try this in the summer, this is an alternative.
Tutorial ~ Hanging Fabric Baskets Or Pockets
I know I say this every time, but I am so excited about this project! The possibilities are endless! And they are so easy – I am going to have baskets hanging all around my house in a weeks time. I am using these above my sewing desk to hold all my notions and patterns. First I will show you how to make them, then I will tell you all the ways I think you could use them…then you can tell me all the ways I never thought of!
Needle and Spatula: Pleated Pouch Sewing Tutorial
I originally posted this project in August and have been meaning to make it again to do a tutorial ever since. This bag combines elements from a number of different tutorials and projects out there, I basically mixed and matched elements to come up with what I wanted. It has squared off bottom corners which give it a good amount of inside volume and a nice shape. It can stand up (and would stand up even more if made with home dec weight fabric or using interfacing).
Fingerprints on the Fridge: Christmas topiary
When I saw this photo over at BHG I knew I had to have it. No doubt, it had to be mine. I do love the colors but they wouldn’t go with much in my house at the moment, so I had to improvise. I made a ton of these Santa Jars last year to give Oreo truffles in so I just made another big ol’ one.
Fabric braclets
i don't know what it is about this time of year that makes me just want to have my bare feet in the sand, be watching the sun setting into the ocean, and breathing in the warm salty air of the beach...as i get older, more and more i find myself missing that place i used to go to almost every.single.day. as a teen. (my skin doesn't miss it. as a matter of fact, i now wish i listened more and DID put SPF on my face...hindsight is 20/20). my mom calls me from her walk on the beach almost every morning...*sigh*yeah, i get a little homesick around this time of the year. heck on my pinterest my "dreaming of summer" has the most pictures in it. ah yes. i miss my ocean. case in point. this bracelet, brought a flood of memories, not because i used to have one like it but because i can totally see me wearing it by the beach, not caring that it's gotten salty and wet, because i can totally make another one in like less than 5 minutes flat when i get home.
