Inhabited sculpture This article was originally published in Domus 966 / February 2013 Recently, Belgian postwar modernism has repeatedly been explored on an international scale. It was the subject of several articles published in specialised journals, and the public has been exposed through exhibitions and monographs to the work of Belgian architects who were previously unknown outside their national borders. Although this country and its people are rarely brought up in the context of architecture or design, the 1950s and '60s represent the extraordinary growth of applied art in Belgium.
Musée du Prado les collections Welcome to the Museo del Prado, an institution dating back almost 200 years and one whose origins and unique nature are largely due to the collecting tastes of Spain’s 16th- and 17th-century monarchs. Collecting at that period differed from the present day. Rather than aiming at comprehensiveness, collectors aimed to assemble as many works as possible by their favourite artists. Concordia University Chicago - Art Lessons Welcome to Concordia University Chicago’s link to Artists and Their Art: Sharing Visual Stories, a tool to promote visual literacy through artwork. Recognizing visual cues in a work of art as well as being aware of the times and conditions in which an artist lived enables students to better interpret its imagery, draw conclusions about its effectiveness, and speak critically about the art. Art education research indicates students enjoy a richer art experience and improved visual comprehension when the following four disciplines are included in the art experience: Art History (the study of past artists), Art Aesthetics (response to art), Art Criticism (discussion of art using art vocabulary), and Art Production (hands-on making of art). Artists and Their Art: Sharing Visual Stories focuses mainly on art history by providing a biographical sketch of the artist, an image of one of the artist’s specific works and details about that work.

Closer to Van Eyck The panels of the Ghent Altarpiece are coated with layers of varnish. Varnish serves as a protective coating for paint layers and has important optical functions, since it saturates a painting's colors and creates a more even surface. However, most varnishes gradually degrade over time, getting brittle and opaque, and becoming a darkened and yellowed layer that can dramatically impact the perception of a painting's colors and tonal values. Since a degraded varnish will make the dark areas appear lighter, it will also affect our perception of the rendering of volume and space.
Offices Osakidetza, coll-barreu arquitectos The river of Bilbao is not the only area where urban renewal is taking place. In the center of the old town, the Basque Government has commissioned the young Basque architect Juan Coll-Barreu to design a 'vital' building, dominantly present on the corner of Calle Licenciado Poza with La Alameda de Rekalde. The works of this architect are characterized by their adaptive nature, like a glove fits to a hand. Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, Paris, France In the heart of Paris's museum land, neighbouring the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay, a few minutes from the Grand and Petit Palais, the Palais de Tokyo and the Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac has an exceptional location on the banks of the River Seine, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The arts of Africa, Oceania, Asia, and the Americas now form part of the historical and artistic grand tour of the capital. The Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac is an innovative cultural institution - museum, educational and research centre, and public living space all in one. Built on one of the last available sites in the heart of Paris, the architectural design of this original project is the work of Jean Nouvel.
