Shafqat Mehmood says right decision to close educational institutes ISLAMABAD: 16, DECEMBER, 2020: Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday said it was the right decision to close educational institutions given a continued rise in Covid-19 infections and deaths. The minister took to Twitter and wrote that "Students should rest assured that the moment things get better all institutions will open." In the wake of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, education ministers on Monday decided to close all educational institutes across the country from November 26 to January 10 as the country is facing the second wave of the epidemic that has claimed more than 9,000 lives and infected over 445,977 people in the country so far. The important decisions regarding the educational institutions were taken in the meeting of the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) which was presided over by Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on November 23.

HEC announces to abolish two-year degree programme ISLAMABAD: 24, NOVEMBER, 2020: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has abolished two-year BA/BSc degree programs and declared them after the academic year 2018 illegal. The announcement has been made by the HEC after noting that some institutions are still offering degrees in the aforesaid programs. According to details, two-year BA, B.Com, BSc degree programs will not be obtained from any college. The Higher Education Commission added that despite the ban in 2018, the launch of the illegal program is concerning. COVID-19: Decision on continuation of education during winter to be made today ISLAMABAD: 16, NOVEMBER, 2020: The decision about winter holidays for the educational institutions will be made today (Monday). However, parents have become increasingly concerned about sending their children to school. According to sources, an important meeting will be held today regarding the continuation of education during the winter. Sources informed that, Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood will preside over a special meeting of the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference today in which the latest situation of Corona cases in educational institutions will be reviewed while where the recommendation (early and extended winter vacations) for schools will be put forward due to increasing positivity rate in educational institutes across Pakistan. They also said that the meeting of the ministers will also "assess and review the positivity ratio prevailing in educational institutions". In a meeting last week, Pakistan had decided to keep the schools open in the country.

STBB refutes allegations published in daily Sindh JAMSHORO: 18, SEPTEMBER, 2020: Sindh Textbook Board on Friday has denounced all allegations against it published in a daily Sindhi. In a statement, Sindh Textbook Board administration, said that newly posted chairman of Sindh Textbook Board Ahmed Bux Narejo had take over charge of board on 18 March during coronavirus epidemic when whole business of life including educational institutions, printing presses, markets and shops remained closed under lockdown. During this period, chairman of STBB Ahmed Bux Narjo after getting permission from home ministry arranged the opening of STBB offices and also printing presses under government SOPs for publication of books. After this process of printing of books and their access to STBB got started.

Educational institutes across Sindh to reopen tomorrow KARACHI: 14, SEPTEMBER, 2020: Educational institutions across Sindh will begin reopening from tomorrow in phases with standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government to contain coronavirus outbreak. Students will join the classes ensuring social distancing while wearing masks for teachers, students and the other staff of the schools has been declared mandatory. They are also advised to sanitize their hands from time to time. Sindh Education Dept prepares short curriculum for schools, colleges KARACHI: 11, SEPTEMBER, 2020: The Sindh education department on Friday has prepared a draft of short curriculums for the students of schools and colleges for the current academic year as the provinces were heading towards reopening of educational institutes in phases from September 15 after coronavirus cases decreased in the country. The draft of short curriculums for schools and colleges prepared by the Sindh secretary education will be introduced before reopening the educational institutions. A notification in this regard will be issued after final approval of Sindh Education Minister. Under the prepared curriculums, the students of Class 11th and 12th (Intermediate) will be taught 30 pc course of science, mathematics and English each, while, 40 pc course outlines of science, mathematics, Sindhi, English will be followed for Class 9th and 10th (Matriculation).

Shafqat says decision to reopen educational institutes to be taken with consensus on Sep 7 ISLAMABAD: 27, AUGUST, 2020: Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood on Thursady has said the final decision regarding the reopening of educational institutes will be taken with consensus on August 7. Speaking at the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in the federal capital Shafqat Mahmood said the govt is preparing effective strategy for reopening of educational institutions. While briefing the NCOC, the minister emphasized that the educational institutions must ensure compliance to all coronavirus safety measures and prepare accordingly before the final decision. Jamshoro: Scholars call for follow-up sample survey on National Census 2017 Jamshoro: 11, July, 2020: (Report: Ali Murad Chandio) Speakers have underlined the need for conduct of sample survey as a follow up study to ascertain facts, labeling National Census 2017 as " disputed", " De' jure instead of De' facto", unreliable", "politically-motivated", " conducted by non-expert, untrained, non-professional bureaucratic apparatus in lieu of scientifically-trained, field-expert demographers in the country. They strongly recommended a follow-up sample survey proposing SU to lead the survey in collaboration with institutions and individuals ' relevant', ' qualified' and ' fit' for the purpose. They further said that the denial of rights to women is not only common but also rampant in Pakistan and the world.
