Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: A New Google Tool for Music Teachers October 6, 2016 Google’s popular app Science Journal has recently added an interesting feature called Light Instruments which is basically an activity that enables students ‘to design and build a musical instrument played by changing the light that reaches it’. the instruments are constructed from light sensors connected to external bluetooth devices which ‘when connected to the Science Journal app, will shoe the sensor’s value and change as the levels of light do, and produce different notes through the graph signification’. More importantly, students with visual impairment can now use the app to easily translate graphs into musical notes. Commenting on this new feature, Google states that When they first shared this feature with their partners at the Exploratorium, ‘they saw more than an accessibility tool for users with low vision. Concordia University Chicago - Art Lessons Welcome to Concordia University Chicago’s link to Artists and Their Art: Sharing Visual Stories, a tool to promote visual literacy through artwork. Recognizing visual cues in a work of art as well as being aware of the times and conditions in which an artist lived enables students to better interpret its imagery, draw conclusions about its effectiveness, and speak critically about the art. Art education research indicates students enjoy a richer art experience and improved visual comprehension when the following four disciplines are included in the art experience: Art History (the study of past artists), Art Aesthetics (response to art), Art Criticism (discussion of art using art vocabulary), and Art Production (hands-on making of art). Artists and Their Art: Sharing Visual Stories focuses mainly on art history by providing a biographical sketch of the artist, an image of one of the artist’s specific works and details about that work.

Every Exhibition Held at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Presented in a New Web Site: 1929 to Present Images courtesy of MoMA We all hate it when we hear of an exciting exhibition, only to find out that it closed last week — or 80 years ago. New York’s Museum of Modern Art has made great strides toward taking the sting out of such narrowly or widely-missed cultural opportunities with their new digital exhibition archive.

Most detailed ever photograph of The Night Watch goes online See the photograph Taco Dibbits, director of the Rijksmuseum: The Operation Night Watch research team use the very latest technologies and continually push the boundaries of what was thought possible. The photograph is a crucial source of information for the researchers, and online visitors can use it to admire Rembrandt’s masterpiece in minute detail. The Rijksmuseum’s imaging team led by datascientist Robert Erdmann made this photograph of The Night Watch from a total of 528 exposures.

Japanese Illustrated Books from the Edo and Meiji Periods The Freer|Sackler Library's collection of illustrated Japanese rare books includes over 1,000 volumes previously owned by Charles Lang Freer. Often filled with color illustrations, many are by famous artists such as Andō Hiroshige and Katsushika Hokusai. These beautiful woodblock printed works of art were published during the Edo and Meiji periods (1600-1912). Another group of Japanese rare books more recently added to the Library's collections consists of 67 volumes of illustrated Meiji-period books collected by Robert O. Muller who also formed a superb collection of Japanese prints from the same period which he bequeathed to the Arthur M.Sackler Gallery.

Every Single Name on This Entrancing Map Is a Music Reference My favorite song about California is Scott McKenzie’s 1967 easy-listening hippie anthem “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair).” I’ll admit: It’s not the best song about the Golden State. But I still like it. When I was a teenager, years before ever visiting San Francisco, the saccharine song seemed to encompass all the promises of the West Coast: good vibrations, counter culture, and flower crowns (Coachella hadn’t ruined them yet). The “World Song Map” is designed to encourage that kind of imaginary meandering.

Hundreds of Vintage Posters Are Now Available to Download and Print 100% Free - Creators If the posters of today still had the look of those of yesteryear, would they still get tagged and trolled as often? Much work today, it seems, lacks the graphic audacity of yore, opting instead for forms and formats we've become accustomed to. That's why, when you find vintage posters in flea markets, you find prices that might suggest they were just printed.

How-To Use GarageBand in the Reading Classroom GarageBand isn’t just an app for music teachers! One of my favorite parts of diving into the Apple Teacher program is my new found love of Garageband. This Mac and iOS program is so powerful and has plenty of uses in the classroom. GarageBand is digital recording tool that lets students capture their voice with a microphone or play a variety of virtual instruments.
