Balanced scorecard A balanced scorecard is a strategy performance management tool – a semi-standard structured report, that can be used by managers to keep track of the execution of activities by the staff within their control and to monitor the consequences arising from these actions.[1] The phrase 'balanced scorecard' primarily refers to a performance management report used by a management team, and typically this team is focused on managing the implementation of a strategy or operational activities – in a recent survey[1] 62% of respondents reported using Balanced Scorecard for strategy implementation management, 48% for operational management. Balanced Scorecard is also used by individuals to track personal performance, but this is uncommon – only 17% of respondents in the survey using Balanced Scorecard in this way, however it is clear from the same survey that a larger proportion (about 30%) use corporate Balanced Scorecard elements to inform personal goal setting and incentive calculations.

What is the Balanced Scorecard? The balanced scorecard is a strategic planning and management system that is used extensively in business and industry, government, and nonprofit organizations worldwide to align business activities to the vision and strategy of the organization, improve internal and external communications, and monitor organization performance against strategic goals. It was originated by Drs. Robert Kaplan (Harvard Business School) and David Norton as a performance measurement framework that added strategic non-financial performance measures to traditional financial metrics to give managers and executives a more 'balanced' view of organizational performance.

SharePoint Integration with MicroStrategy Recently, while working on one of my project assignments I got to work on the integration of SharePoint 2010 with MicroStrategy 9. The requirement was to pull the report from the MicroStrategy and show that in a web part. We had the MicroStrategy environment set up and also I had my SharePoint development environment set up.Here, I will show you how you can configure the SharePoint environment to pull reports from the MicroStrategy. When you contact MicroStrategy for their portlets, which can be plugged with SharePoint, you will get a .CAB file. This CAB file has two web parts in it 1) ‘MicroStrategy Master Web Part’ 2) ‘MicroStrategy Web Part’.

Gartner Group suggests that over 50% of large US firms have adopted the BSC. More than half of major companies in the US, Europe and Asia are using balanced scorecard approaches, with use growing in those areas as well as in the Middle East and Africa. Kaplan and Norton describe the innovation of the balanced scorecard as follows:

But if you're trying to extract useful information from an ever-increasing inflow of data, you'll likely find visualization useful -- whether it's to show patterns or trends with graphics instead of mountains of text, or to try to explain complex issues to a nontechnical audience. There are many tools around to help turn data into graphics, but they can carry hefty price tags. Matching technology: Optimize your HR department’s recruitment process C'est votre première visite ?
