Paul Klee: Triumph of a 'degenerate'
"I cannot be grasped in the here and now," the artist Paul Klee wrote as the first line of his own tombstone epitaph. Which in one sense is the opposite of the truth. There are few among the leading Modernist painters who are not more readily known than Klee, with his spindly lines and squared block colours, and even fewer who are more readily loved. Picasso and Matisse seize you with their vision, Klee has the knack of making you feel a partner in it.

Scribbled Wire Sculptures Mysteriously Appear to Float
Sculptor David Oliveira wrote to us to tell us about his very interesting wire sculptures. At first glance, it seems as though someone has just scribbled ink drawings on top of existing photos. In reality, the Lisbon-born artist who has a degree in Sculpture and a Masters in Artistic Anatomy from the Lisbon Faculty of Fine Arts, twists and turns wire until he creates figures and objects. How does his background play into his work? "For me, to be able to 'draw' I must know and understand the object," he tells us.
Go Home, Polish Michal Iwanowski
Following a historic referendum in 2016, the people of Britain voted to leave the European Union. In March 2019, this departure – ‘Brexit’ – will formally take place. The overarching narrative of post-Brexit Britain is bleak, unfolding against the backdrop of an equally turbulent European landscape. Confusion is the order of the day, political divisions are fierce, and notions of belonging and home have become complicated.
Choi Xoo Ang – Unique Sculptural Art
I love Choi Xoo Ang human emotion art. Choi Xoo Ang is an emerging mixed media artist based out of Seoul, South Korea who creates figurative sculptures out of clay and resin that examines human rights, society’s pathological state, and sex and gender politics among other themes. The distorcion of the reality is something amazing in his work where you can feel a little of the real in the whole fantasy.
