It all started with the impulse buy of a magnificent Burro’s Tail from Aspen Flowers in Loop Street, and next thing I was googling macrame tutorials on the internet. Just look at how it turned out! It all came together quite quickly, after I learned how to make a really easy macrame hanger that’s not too desperately retro. Made from black cotton rope, it’s actually quite elegant, I think. I’ve seen many cinder block planters, which is understandable: The combination of gray cement and green herbs and succulents is lovely. Inspired by a cinder block planter project she saw on Apartment Therapy, Kristin decided to expand on the idea and incorporate more salvaged elements to create an outdoor bar. The mix of materials and colors is pretty and unexpected, and I love the idea that if you plant herbs in the blocks, you can simply reach down to add a sprig of something to your cocktails. Am I (Claire) the only one stunned by December’s arrival? With the holidays quickly approaching, the next few weeks will be devoted to totally prepping my house for the season… especially in the kitchen. One project on my to-do list, which I think would be fabulous to have completed in time for holiday entertaining, is a hanging herb garden. And since temps in Texas will be dropping in the next few weeks, I can’t imagine anything better than having a lush array of greens at arms-length. Awesome rooftop gardens.
