I purchased the kit for this mini quilt back in April 2014. I don't know why I never managed to get it finished for Christmas 2014, but it is now ready for Christmas 2015. A number of people on facebook have asked me for instructions to make this quilt. If this design was available as a downloadable pattern I would direct you to the online shop to buy your own copy. Classic Blocks: Fresh Fabric... The Friendship Star. I'm starting something new on the SewCanShe blog today and I'm so excited about it!

Classic Blocks: Fresh Fabric... The Friendship Star

Last month Anna Griffin and Blend Fabrics reached out to me for collaboration ideas and it was so serendipitous because I already had an idea in mind and was waiting for some fresh new fabric to try it. Introducing... Classic Blocks: Fresh Fabric! On the first Monday of each month we'll show off a beautiful new fabric collection from Anna Griffin (or Blend) and then I'll use it to show you how to make a classic quilt block. The classic blocks look so absolutely fabulous in new fabrics that I feel giddy just thinking about it. Oh, and even better for you: each month I'll give away a 10 fat quarter bundle of that sweet new fabric to one quilter who made our classic block and posted a picture of it either in our SewCanShe Flickr Pool or facebook group photo album.

Of course you could make lots of a single block for a whole quilt top (like I did today) or just one each month until you have a sampler. Chopped up charms table runner. If you haven't entered the Fat Quarter Shop giveaway, go now and do it!

It’s no secret, I love trees.

For the Love of (Christmas) Trees

I love spring-flowering trees (like Paducah’s famous dogwoods), I love summer trees (like the pretty crepe myrtle in my yard), and ohh those pretty red maples of autumn! (And aspens! And birches! And weeping willows! I could go on, but you get the drift.) Of course, the Christmas season is upon us, and with it I couldn’t help but try to find Christmas tree projects to share with you this holiday season. A big thank you to Angie at Stitching by Starlight, Chrissy and Linda at Sit & Stitch Awhile, and Jessica at SewCraftyJess for letting us link to their blogs!

Stitching by Starlight provided a detailed tutorial for the Christmas Tree Block above. Winter quilt (to not say xmas quilt since I’ve missed the deadline) Oops… Never mind!

Winter quilt (to not say xmas quilt since I’ve missed the deadline)

I hope you have all been spoiled and enjoyed your end of year celebrations! Personally, I had a good one but cannot even think of food anymore (or alcohol), I am full for a month! So here is my belated Xmas quilt tutorial that I managed to finished just the day before Xmas! The circles remind me of baubles but since it is now a winter quilt, it reminds me of snow balls (not sure about that one !). After attending Quilt Market, realizing that we as quilters will be inundated with fabulous new fabrics in the very near future, it's time to address scraps and stash. Holly Jolly Ornaments does that. While you're waiting for all those wonderful new fabrics to hit the racks at your local quilt shop, why don't you use some of your scraps to make these cute ornaments? If you start now, you can have a good start on the holidays and make room for a bit of new fabrics. QNMP-140100-CMAS_TABLE-WebX_9860. Quick X-mas Tree Tutorial. Lovely Design's Lovely Little Forest Quilt. We are big fans of the wonderfully creative products made by the super talented Sharilyn Wright of Lovely Design (you can find tons of great gifts on her site). In fact, we've used her beautiful rolodexes in our shops for years. Recently, Joelle came across an incredibly sweet yet modern Christmas Tree Quilt on Sharilyn's Flickr page (while you're there, you may want to look around at her photostream a bit, it is filled with amazing, inspring ideas!).

We loved it so much and knew that you would, too! We asked Sharilyn if she would be willing to share her pattern with our Purl Bee readers and she generously agreed. This time, I decided to step it up a notch and I’m making the Scrappy Make-up Pouch. I was distracted by the cuteness and didn’t notice the zipper until I’d already signed up. A Zipper! I signed up to do a project with a ZIPPER! Who did I think I was? I decided I needed a cute little bag for a binding kit more than I needed a make-up pouch, so I chose Maryjo’s Sewing Room fabrics since they were in keeping with my quilting theme. The bag itself was fun to make and wasn’t difficult at all. I even had fun quilting it using simple straight lines. When it looked like we might go on a family trip over Christmas I started looking for ideas to keep my 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter busy on an airplane.
