Premier Craft, Trade, Artisan School. Museum Conservation Institute. Tour the Town.
About the Action - COSCH. The main objective of this COST Action is to promote research, development and application of optical measurement techniques – adapted to the needs of heritage documentation – based on an interdisciplinary cooperation, on a concerted European level and to offer a novel and reliable, independent and global knowledge base facilitating the use of today's and future optical measuring techniques to support the documentation of European heritage.
This includes: 1. The development of guidelines for CH authorities concerning the specification of minimal spatial resolution/uncertainty values for a selected set of materials (including its finishing techniques) depending on goal of documentation, e.g. visualisation and condition assessment. 2. 3. 4. Lehmann’s Large Musical Cabinet - The Royal Danish Collection. The four metre high musical cabinet is not simply the most impressive example of the craft of furniture making made in Denmark in the 18th century; it also has a built in “music machine” with a mini orchestra.
Frederik V was able to impress and enchant his guests in the golden dining room at Christiansborg Palace with the cabinet’s automated trumpet, flute, and cembalo mechanism. Every half hour a bell in the cabinet chimed, after which the finest music in the form of a trumpet fanfare played; the cabinet also played a piece for flutes and cembalos every hour. There was a choice of 14 different pieces for flute, and 7 pieces for trumpet. Publications. Chemistry in the Arts - American Chemical Society. Conservators Conservators must work with irreplaceable objects, many of them very old and fragile.
They are often asked to strike a balance between restoring or repairing an object and leaving it "as is" to convey a sense of authenticity and antiquity. Laboratory test samples are often very small, to avoid excessive damage to the object, and nondestructive testing is preferred. Laboratory instruments are sometimes adapted to accommodate very large works of art to avoid having to extract samples. Journal. CIMCIM. Oxford university Bate Collection. Conservation Courses and conservation case studies - West Dean College UK. Students gain extensive practical experience of conservation on high quality objects, underpinned by a thorough grounding in theoretical and contextual knowledge.
Complementing the full-time programmes is a range of conservation short courses, including a programme in partnership with The British Library. Academic staff are respected in their field and have extensive connections with employers in the heritage sector. Revista Interamericana de Bibliotecología. Rijksmuseum Fellowship Programme - Rijksmuseum Fellowship Programma - Onderzoek. Manfred & Hanna Heiting Fellowship for photo-historical research The Manfred & Hanna Heiting Fonds/Rijksmuseum Fonds enables the Rijksmuseum to annually award two postgraduate Fellowships that stimulate outstanding object-based, photo-historical research by prospective curators from the Netherlands or abroad.

There are extraction hoods for use with toxic products and a safety shower. These hazardous substances are stored in separate rooms, as are the machines. Safety and dust prevention are key and modern devices such as endoscopes, binoculars and UV lamps are in everyday use. Brocade Desktop: fedbib. Home - Iperion. ECPN Webinar: Pathways into Conservation Science. The Emerging Conservation Professionals Network (ECPN) is pleased to announce that our next webinar “Pathways into Conservation Science” will take place on Friday, April 22nd from 12-1pm (EST).
Description The program will feature three speakers: Dr. Tom Learner, Head of Science at the Getty Conservation Institute; Dr. Gregory Smith, the Otto N. Preservation Underground - Duke University Libraries Preservation. As evidenced by the archives from the tag “Boxing Day“, we make a lot of boxes in the lab.
Some objects require specific enclosures and we have many materials and techniques at our disposal for fulfilling the needs of the object. Of particular interest to me lately have been enclosures appropriate for parchment over boards bindings, which include some form of restraint. Parchment is hygroscopic by nature and will change size and shape dramatically under different environmental conditions (Woods, 2006). The structure and limited adhesive of a limp binding will usually allow the parchment to adjust (Clarkson, 1982), but bindings composed of parchment adhered over stiff boards can distort significantly with fluctuating relative humidity. The vellum over boards binding below recently came through the lab for treatment and illustrates (to a lesser extent) some of the typical warping that can occur with this style of binding. Teaching. Teaching in the area of art, culture, conservation and heritage is important in different faculties of Maastricht University and cross-faculty cooperation takes place in various forms and levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD).
An example is the successful joint Minor of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Law named “Art, Law and Policy Making”. Besides diverse honours programs, Maastricht University offers the Master Arts and Heritage: Policy, Management and Education as well as several BA level courses on, for example, law and art, the art market, art theory, and museum studies. Since two years the Science Programme at Maastricht University offers a course on ‘Science and the Visual Arts: Conservation and its Histories’ developed by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg. On a regional level, MACCH teaching collaborates with Hogeschool Zuyd; I-Arts; Hubert van Eyck Academy. Grassroots Voice of Historic Preservation.
