IBM Creates World's Smallest Movie With Atoms. This post was originally published on Mashable .

Actors have a saying: There are no small roles. IBM is seriously challenging that expression, however, now that it's created a short film where the actors are actually made out of individual atoms. The ability to store data on individual atoms could one day lead to extreme storage solutions. A Boy and His Atom would be just like any number of unremarkable animated shorts were it not for the fact that it's only visible if you use a microscope that enlarges the action by 100 million times. Using techniques it honed after years of researching atomic data storage, IBM created 250 stop-motion frames depicting a boy playing with his (pet? In addition to the short film, IBM also created some exclusive atomic imagery for the upcoming film Star Trek: Into Darkness . IBM developed the atomic-manipulation technique partly in pursuit of more efficient storage technologies. The Maker Movement. Preface I’ve been so busy making making things, making a hackerspace at FamiLAB, making a Maker Faire, talking about Making our Community better, and launching a maker-focused foundation that I don’t update this page often enough… I originally wrote this because I was constantly answering “What is a Maker?”

The Maker Movement

– but I don’t get the question anymore – and that is a good thing. If this is really interesting to you, and you want to know more, just ask We’ve formed The Maker Effect Foundation to activate and amplify the efforts of makers as they learn, build and work together in their communities, please visit our website to learn more. If you live in Orlando, our community page is a great place to learn more about our local organizations that support makers. It is a great time to be a “Maker”! Airstone Labs. Engineering. This multi-day activity gives you an opportunity to explore in depth different engineering disciplines.

Engineering

Each day begins with career presentations by engineers from the local community. Then in a group with other students, you will address a model problem, considering the issues, testing materials, designing solutions and producing proposals. Your proposal will then be assessed by an engineer and you will get to build and test the solution to see if it works. Each day you will have the chance to choose a different field of Engineering. This program is sometimes run in conjunction with the Engineering Link Group as part of the Engineering Link Project. *This activity requires students to currently be undertaking VCE Maths Methods. Lawyer? Doctor? Forget 'em. In 2030, some of the most popular jobs could be vertical farmer, space pilot or body part maker, according to a new report. A new report (.pdf) commissioned by the U.K. government and conducted by Fast Future asked a select group of futurists and thinkers to list what science and technology jobs they think would be most popular by the year 2030 -- with consideration to advances and developments achieved between now and then. The group came up with 110 roles, of which 20 were selected for the study. For example, computers and robots are expected to transform the fields of medicine and farming. On the microscopic level, "nanomedics" would allow selected scientists to treat cancer and other resistant diseases at the cellular level.

But that's not all. For complete descriptions and resources, see the original site. [ Make It! ] Starting Out. Welcome Maybe you are still at school and thinking about your future, or you are a young person about to leave school and considering your options.
