Countable and uncountable nouns
In this post, I try to explain what countable and uncountable nouns are. When I speak with native speakers of English they often tell me that the concept of countability in English is absolutely natural. “You simply know which noun is countable and which is not.” However, this natural feeling is nearly impossible to teach. Based on my experience I have created the following mind map where I try to set some rules to help the learners of English.

Questions and concerns often arise among teachers when it comes to advanced students: just what can a high-level learner do? They have cleared the hurdle of fluency problems, as much of the language has become automatic. In other words, they don't pre-translate and then speak. They also don't get hung up on particular words, and instead can explain around unknown vocabulary.

Making the right choices: ‘Lean On Me’ – On the same page
Every word in the song “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers has been written into a grid with some distractors. Starting in the upper left corner, students complete the lyrics choosing one of the words available right next to the last word in any direction and using each square only once. To guide them through the process, the writing worksheet provides students with a few words in each line, including the first ones, which are also capitalised in the grid for easier reference.
