The Phenomenon of Perfect Pitch
Perfect pitch (also known as absolute pitch) is defined as “The ability of a person to identify or recreate a musical note without the benefit of a known reference.” Loosely speaking it is the ability to be able to define a musical note at any stimulus heard, whether it be from musical pitch or from a standard everyday sound. So for example a person with perfect pitch would be able to tell which note was played behind them on a clarinet and also be able to tell roughly which "note" was being sounded from the tapping of two cups together. Perfect pitch is a fascinating phenomenon. It has helped many musicians and composers create musical masterpieces. From Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Chopin to Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Oscar Peterson, Frank Sinatra, perfect pitch has given many many great artists an extra "advantage" in making the music they so adored.
